when the employer of the job you have applied to has already signified your selection? Is leaving your passport with the agency risky?

It seems to be - I hate it! They also want to see a Driver's License and often SS card. That is too much information left with strangers! It is risky to leave any personal information with strangers. Also, don't forget the office cleaning staff, rummaging around office desks at night.

I'd think their seeing it would be OK, if your job is going to require international travel. And as another responder said, giving them a copy of the main page would seem to meet any needs they should have. I'd ask them why they need to keep it. After all, you might want to go somewhere over the weekend or something. A passport isn't required yet for travel to Canada or Mexico, but can simplify border crossings.

Never let your passport out of your hands - give them a copy of the info page, if that.

they may request a photocopy of it but normally it should not be surrendered.
