Any time you are working 40 hours a week (at least) is Full Time. Anything uder 40 hours a week is considered Part Time.

NOTE: It has to be constant work. Like you are regularly working 40 hours a week. Not 40 hours one week then 20 hours the next week. It has to be 40 hours (or more) in most states to be considered FULL TIME. Then after a certain amount of time (it varies by job and state) you get insurance once you have been working FULL TIME for 90 days. Some places it's after 30 days of full time work. As I said, it varies from state to state and company to company.

:)

It depends on the company. In some companies if you work at least 32 hours a week you are considered full-time. It can be an hourly or a salaried position. This status usually includes some kind of benefit package (health insurance, life insurance, vacation time, sick days etc.).

A part-time position is always hourly paid position and usually doesn't include any type of benefits. Your hours vary on the demands of the business and your schedule can vary weekly. One week you could work 2 8 hour days and the next you could work 5 days 3-4 hours a day.

Retail and restaurant workers are typically part-time because of the nature of the business and the flux of demand. Hope this answerer's your question!

Full time is usually between 32 and 40 hours a week and for that you either receive an hourly rate of pay or a salary which is fixed and doesn't change, if you have to work over...depending on the company. Full time usually entitles you to any benefits such as health insurance, short and long term disability, possibly 401K, profit sharing, paid vacation, etc. That is if the company offers these benefits.
Part time is working under 40 hrs. or 32hrs. depending on the company. Usually part time workers may only get certain benefits, if any, which may be Long term disability or maybe paid vacation time.
All companies vary their hours that they consider full or part time and the benefits for both can vary greatly with each company. I hope I didn't confuse you more!

I don't know what countries all of the other posters are from...but in the USA the definition of full time and part time is NOT legislated on a federal OR state level. It is purely up to the company to make these definitions. Companies DO NOT have to offer benefits (other than "involuntary benefits" such as paying their portion of your social security and medicare payments). Most companies say anything over 32 hrs per week is full time and anything under is part time but it doesn't really matter UNLESS they offer benefits in a tiered fashion (full timers get more usually) or you are worried about making the most money you can make.

A full time job is typically 40 hours per week or more and part time is something less than this. Each employer has different rules but are pretty similar.

As others here have mentioned, the distiguishment between full-time and part-time may depend upon your state's employment statutes, but more probably on federal statute.

Full time employment is working 30 - 40 hours per week regularly - usually requiring your employer to make benefits available.

Part time employment is less, and your employer is not required to make benefits available. You may note, that you may work 40 hours one (or more weeks), but there is a limit to the number of weeks you can work that many hours, before being classified as full-time and required to be provided benefits.

Full time typically refers to a job that employs one for 40 or more hours per week. Part time is less than that. For example, a person who works as a cashier for 40 hours a week is a full-time employee. A person who works at the McDonald's drive-thru window for 20 hours a week is part time.

A full-time job is a job in which you work Mon-Fridays and work a 40 hr work week. it depends on the company . Some jobs are 37.5 hours, but mostly they are 40 hours. a part-time job is a job in which you work less then 40 like 32 hours a week Mon-Friday. So, it depends on the position itself.

part time is usually 20-30+ hours a week and fulltime is 35-40 hours, e.g. im a work student student i can only work part time the max hours i can put in are 20 hours, i use to work at a call center (tag) in the contract that i had to sign it stated that it was a fulltime position 40 hours a week, and if i work 35 hours or below that is considered part time and i could get fired.

The 40-hour mark separates the two kinds of work titles, and typically the benefits plan is the explanation of the difference between the two.
