What kind of Job did you have when you graduated from the university?

I graduated in 2005 with a degree in Finance and have been working in an investment company since then. Despite the good people, opportunity to grow, salary, incentives and benefits, I realized that this is not the kind of job that I’m interested and have the passion for- without that factors, it’s difficult for one to excel. I’m interested to start my own business than to earn from paycheck to paycheck.

Question: Is it a wise decision for me to quit the job and pursue my interest (despite the fact that I don't have any definite plan for my next move?)
What worries me is if I were to continue staying at this job while deciding what my next move will be, in 5 yrs, I see myself still deciding on my career path.

Serious answer only, please.

Some friends and I got together and started talking about this one and realized that at least for the three of us haven't been able to break out of the track that our first high school job put us on. I was in retail and still am despite having a degree and management experience. Another friend is trapped in the food industry. Still another, in secretarial work despite a masters degree in business management. Are we doomed by our first job I ask you?

In order to make a decent living, I can't stick around in my tiny home town, and I'm REALLY tired of my college town. I'm thinking of moving to either Orlando, Atlanta, or Houston. The only problem is, I don't know anyone there. At first I was all, "nah, I don't care," but as the time comes for me to make my decision, I grow more worried about that aspect. I've never been anywhere where I didn't know ANYBODY, and I'm not all that great at making friends. The thought of being all alone in a big city is kind of intimidating. If you've ever been in this situation, how did you cope? What did you do to not feel so alone?

There's a lady who steals money from the store I work at and my boss recently found out about it. I thought she would confront her or fire her but she's not doing ANYTHING because they are friends. She doesn't want to lose the friendship or the business the thief's family does at the store. So she gets to keep stealing! This is wrong and I know its wrong. But what can I do?? Should I tell her I think something should be done or should I just mind my own business?

I've become friends w/ my assistant over the last year. B/c of this she doesn't treat me with respect, she often snaps at me (she has a temper problem), she doesn't even attempt to hide the fact that she's in Chat rooms all day, shopping on eBay AND to top it all off this morning she told me that she's been sleeping all morning b/c she stayed out all weekend with her boyfriend.
I'm sick of being treated like crap so I'm pulling away from the friendship, however she still doesn't respect me.
I'm her boss and she can't be doing this sort of thing at work...
What should I do? Should I go to my boss about this or just leave it be?
If they fire her, I might be without an assistant. Also, I'll have to train someone to cover me during maternity leave. I don't know what to do!
What should I do?

I'm at my witts end with this job search! I'm currently temporarily employed, but will not be hired on. I am working with a temp agency, but I just don't feel like they're much help. I've tried careerbuilder.com and monster.com but there just doesn't seem to be much on either. I'm looking for admin/clerical. Any help / advice would be much appreciated.

I am thinking of changing jobs. Ive been at current job for 6 years. They are good to me, but do not keep me very busy. Also, I am in customer service and they are really late on a lot of jobs and struggling to keep any of the customers happy. I blame this on poor management. Anyways, Ive been offered a different job with just about the same duties. It pays more. Its farther away (45 minutes) but starts an hour later. Im really nervous and dont know what to do. Ive been here a very long time and just had a baby and they have been so patient with me as far as drs. appointments and time off goes. I really need serious advice please.

I work for a ambulance company that is having problems. First, our marketing director tried to sink the company because he has personal differences with the owner (she wouldnt let him run the company his way). My owner wasnt aware of what he was doing until he tried to stage a mass walk-out. He succeeded to some degree. So, we've had financial set-backs because of his actions and increased costs on fuel and less in payments from medicare.
Keeping in mind that several people walked out on the owner, I dont want to be part of those who were trying to destroy her company, but at the same time, the owner is having trouble making payroll. I'm a single mom and cant afford to be without a check. I'm the office manager and it's incredibly stressful because collectors are constantly calling and there isnt money to pay the bills. What should I do? I dread coming to work every day but I dont want to be disloyal like the others.

Albertsons is a leading food and drug store in the US. Due to stiff competition, it's profit has declined over the years.

Larry Johnston came to Albertsons from GE . He made a few significant changes. These include closing stores which are making losses and reviewing supply chain to cut losses. He also brought in Ed Foreman to change the employee mindset. Ed Foreman has a 3 day Successful Life Course which include inspirational handouts , physical and mental exercises. It focuses on changing the attitude of a person.

Johnston believes strongly in Foreman's Progam. "Positive attitude is the single biggest thing that can change a business", says Johnston.

The question is "How is a motivation course for employee good for a business?"

I have worked for this very small company for a little over a year. I love my co-workers dearly..they are amazing. However I don't really enjoy the work I do (hence being here on yahoo). A job doing exactly what I want to do is open at another company. I sent my resume. Oh my god though I feel guilt wracked. What should I do. What is better loving your job or loving your co-workers? If I do leave how do I break it to them.....this will be bad. They have spent a lot of money and time training me (well kind of..it's too small to have real training) and I know I'll hurt them.
