Unfortunately, older people are often overlooked in today's society. Youth is often times rewarded, even though the person is not nearly as qualified. There are legal actions you can take, but this takes time and you aren't earning anything in the mean time.
Try applying at a temp agency. They should be able to find you something that you are qualified for. Many employers use them to find permanent help. Plus you have options. If you don't like the employer you can chose not to work there. Just tell them you don't like the environment and could they find you someplace else while you are working there?
Also put an application everywhere. Somebody needs a health mature responsible adult somewhere.

Perhaps you need to brush up on your application and interview techniques... maybe things have changed since you last applied for a job. Many sectors have 'buzz words' that they will be looking for in an application.

UK answer - Try working with an adviser at the jobcentre or your local careers office. Try and find your nearest Next Step centre which offers careers advice to over 21's. Also learndirect can be really helpful.

On your application form make sure you spell everything correctly and write neatly. Do a rough draft first. A personal statement should include all the qualities required in the job description, including examples of how you have done these previously (e.g. team working)

Looking for a job is a full-time job and should be treated with much concentration and seriousness.

Good luck!

I hear there are still openings in Nevada's first male Brothel. Heidi Fleiss is opening one there called "Heidi's Stud Farm", so if you're healthy and fit........go for it.

Otherwise, Home Depot, Borders, Cingular, CVS/pharmacy, Kelly Services, Manpower, MetLife, New York Life Insurance and Walgreens are just some of the companies on AARP's list of featured employers -- and they're all companies which say they're eager to hire older workers.

SENIORJOBBANK.COM

SeniorJobBank.com has had a long life in Internet years, having started in 1999. But it wasn't until 2005, when the site was acquired and relaunched by NHC Group Inc., of Marlborough, Mass., that the number of job seekers and employers reached a critical mass.

Today, the site gets about 5,000 visitors a day browsing about 200 jobs available across the U.S. and Canada. Jobs range from entry level -- including a recent posting for the mysterious-sounding position of "dialer" -- to director-level posts in finance and accounting. Recently, a children's nonprofit in Portland, Ore., was advertising for a director of operations and development to report directly to the chief executive officer, while a Bethesda, Md., company was seeking a senior financial analyst.

"We have jobs listed for people re-entering the work force after many years, all the way up to bank president and hospital director," says Gene Burnard, founder of NHC Group, which also runs about 30 other niche job sites. "We are targeting middle-class people over 50 who need a little extra income."

It doesn't matter whether you are fit, healthy or intelligent but what is really a matter of concern is that you are 60 years old and I am very sorry to say that perhaps nobody will like to employ someone who has already reached the age of Retirement. I guess no one will ever give you a job. Instead they will employ sexy gals. What do you think you will do in this old age??? You better go to an Old-Home and stay there peacefully with your other old geezer comrades.
Good luck!!!!!!!!!

They're about to bring in the ageism laws soon, apply for lots of jobs and make a living suing (for prejudice) anyone who doesn't hire you.
Seriously though, you've got to go for jobs where your age and experience are an advantage to your prospective employers, particularly if this involves training others too. Accept that you may need to change the way you sell yourself. My company employs an 80 year old receptionist and he is absolutely brilliant at his job and is utterly dependable in every way. These are good qualities...Integrity is another - work out yours then find the perfect vehicle for them and go for it.

You're not getting a job because of your age. You are at retirement, and they know that you will not be hanging around very long. Sorry, man. All I can tell you is keep trying. See if you can't find a job somewhere that generally hires older people. Other than that, your only real option may be Wal-Mart greeter.

Mustard is a secret bulge-buster. That boosts your metabolism and boosts natural ephadrine, the hormone that burns fat. According to Jeya Henry, professor of human nutrition at Oxford Brookes University, just a tablespoon within your food can reduce a flabby waist by 20 %!

Dont say what kind of jobs you are applying for, but there's a lot of competition out there with younger, cheaper people. I am in the same boat as you. Keep trying and something will come along. Good luck.
