What kind of Job did you have when you graduated from the university?

I graduated in 2005 with a degree in Finance and have been working in an investment company since then. Despite the good people, opportunity to grow, salary, incentives and benefits, I realized that this is not the kind of job that I’m interested and have the passion for- without that factors, it’s difficult for one to excel. I’m interested to start my own business than to earn from paycheck to paycheck.

Question: Is it a wise decision for me to quit the job and pursue my interest (despite the fact that I don't have any definite plan for my next move?)
What worries me is if I were to continue staying at this job while deciding what my next move will be, in 5 yrs, I see myself still deciding on my career path.

Serious answer only, please.

Thank you for the respond, Kristy!

I have ideas in mind and talked to a career counselor about it before, but don’t seem to receive much of a help. The difficulty that I have here is to find the bridge to connect my plan and to actually make it happen. So, what kind of job did you have when you are/ were 23?

I would really appreciate if any business owners could share some experiences.

It looks to me that you answered your own question, it worries you to stay while you desire to pursue your interest. .There is an old adage, "Do what you love, the money will follow". And another, "Better to have tried and succeeded (or failed) than not to have tried at all." Get moving........

I am 23 and I have been a stay at home mom for 6 yrs. I know this is not the kind of answer you were looking for, but I just wanted to let you know that things will improve and you should try things while you are young while you have little to lose. You will learn from your mistakes and become a more sucessful person in the long run. Life is all about trial and error. Good luck, follow your dreams, but keep a good head on your shoulder!

When I was 23 I was working in child care. I am now 40 and I am still working in a preschool. I love my job. I have also been a director of different day care centers but nothing beats working with the children. It is very rewarding.

What do you have (financially) to fall back on, should your own business take a while to take off? If you don't like where you are, devise your plan, marking out your next step rather than sit and stew.
