I found bits and pieces of my question in other posts but I am going to ask it here in whole. Thanks.

A company thinks their stock is overvalued and doubles the number of outstanding shares (e.g. 2 for 1 split) and cuts the price in half resulting in no immediate market value change.

As an investor you see in your brokerage account the number of shares double while the price falls by half resulting in a net market value change of zero.

What about your cost basis?

Let's say you have only been buying shares (never sold any) of one stock and that you are using the average cost basis your broker calculates for you. All of a sudden the price of those split shares dropped by 50% so if you decided to sell some shares right after the spilt could you potentially even sell at a capital loss and get a tax deduction (more likely the taxable earnings will be less)?

Basically how is your cost basis effected since the stock's price "artificially" went down? Good time to sell?

I was walking inside from my hotel's pool when I slipped in some water and fell. I know, I should expect water to be around the pool, but the ground around the pool is a smooth surface. Aren't they usually textured for traction to prevent slipping? Or, if they want to have a smooth surface, shouldn't there be someone mopping up any potentially hazardous puddles? I know I'm not just clumsy because as we were waiting for the ambulance, another girl slipped and fell in the exact spot that I did. The hotel was nice enough to call the ambulance for me, but failed to offer to pay for any hospital bills. I ended up spraining my left ankle and left wrist. I'm left-handed and work in an operating room, therefore I'm pretty useless at work. I tried going in today but left early due to my injuries. Should I try to take legal action?

Therefore they were unable to cast a ballot for officers. The question was raised to the committee members. Should this member have the opportunity to vote?"

Lmp on 8/25/07. Concieved around 9/4/07 & 9/9/07. Positive hpt on 9/22, went to doctors to confirm, bloodtest said I had an hcg level of 29, 2 days later a level of 26, 2 days later a level of 92, going back again today to retest. I have pregnancy symptoms, mild breast tenderness, mild cramping, some queseyness, very tired, mood swings, missed period, increased appatiet. My general doctor keeps throwing the word miscarriage at me and doesnt sound too optimistic and wont tell me that i have a viable pregnancy. I am very confused as to what is going on. I have had no bleeding or severe pain. I want this baby really bad. Does it sound to you like i have a viable pregnancy? This is my first pregnancy with no past history of miscarrage or etopic. Thank you.

We really want to go to Venice more than anything, but we just don't know if we'll be able to afford it or not. Is there any other cool places that we could go? Or do you know how expensive a normal honeymoon is? We live in the U.S., and we really had our hearts set on Venice, Italy. But we're willing to hear any other options that are out there that could be cheaper. Thanks!

A simular question has already been asked in a now closed forum, however I didn't get the answer I was looking for out of it. Some of the statements made in the previous forum were "a mach is passing the sound barrier and light doesn't have a barrier" Well light may not have a barrier (as seen yet) but we continue to say mach even though mach 2,3,4... doesn't create a sonic boom. The second statement was that nothing is faster than the speed of light, well we're assuming there is or could be. So that being said, I'm looking for a dictionary answer of what you would call the speed of light multiplied by x. If you want to include the medium in which it's traveling, we'll say the vacuum of space without a spec of matter around. I did a small amount of research to figure this question out and I found no answer. So if it becomes a word I say we call it a Spock, cause it rhymes with Mach and would please the trekies, no that's a joke of course. There has to already be a word for it.

A man walks into a restaurant with a full-grown ostrich behind him. The waitress asks them for their orders.

The man says, "A hamburger, fries and a coke," and turns to the ostrich, "What's yours?" "I'll have the same," says the ostrich.

A short time later the waitress returns with the order "That will be $9.40 please," and the man reaches into his pocket and pulls out the exact change for payment.

The next day, the man and the ostrich come again and the man says, "A hamburger, fries and a coke." The ostrich says, "I'll have the same." Again the man reaches into his pocket and pays with exact change.

This becomes routine until the two enter again. "The usual?" asks the waitress.

"No, this is Friday night, so I will have a steak, baked potato and a salad," says the man. "Same," says the ostrich.

Shortly the waitress brings the order and says, "That will be $32.62." Once again the man pulls the exact change out of his pocket and places it on the table.

The waitress cannot hold back her curiosity any longer. "Excuse me sir. How do you manage to always come up with the exact change in your pocket every time?"

"Well," says the man, "several years ago I was cleaning the attic and found an old lamp. When I rubbed it, a Genie appeared and offered me two wishes.

My first wish was that if I ever had to pay for anything, I would just put my hand in my pocket and the right amount of money would always be there."

"That's brilliant!" says the waitress. "Most people would ask for a million dollars or something, but you'll always be as rich as you want for as long as you live!"

That's right. Whether it's a gallon of milk or a Rolls Royce, the exact money is always there," says the man.

The waitress asks, "What's with the ostrich?"

The man sighs, pauses and answers, "My second wish was for a tall chick with a big a$$ and long legs who agrees with everything I say."
