We really want to go to Venice more than anything, but we just don't know if we'll be able to afford it or not. Is there any other cool places that we could go? Or do you know how expensive a normal honeymoon is? We live in the U.S., and we really had our hearts set on Venice, Italy. But we're willing to hear any other options that are out there that could be cheaper. Thanks!

I went to Hawaii 3 years ago and it was the most amazing place I've ever seen. It is a little pricey, but so worth it. We'd be driving and all around us were mountains, and all of the mountains had waterfalls coming down. It's the most amazing and beautiful place and I guarantee that you won't be disappointed!!

Unless you gamble and are super excited about Cirque de Soliel shows, skip Vegas. It's boring, unless you take a trip to the Grand Canyon (if you haven't been), then you will have some excitement for a few hours out of one day.

If you really have searched and researched and absolutely know you can't afford Venice--I'm saying this b/c if it were myh dream, I would make it possible, even if it meant eating PB&J three times a week to save money--consider what things you really enjoy in a vacation. Do you prefer to sit on the beach and be catered to? To relax in a carefree way? Or, do you prefer culture, arts and lots of things to do, even ability to travel to another country within a few hours of your destination? Look at places like Barcelona or Greece to give you a similar feel. If you're more beachy/pampering type, St. Lucia is very nice, and it's affordable. I have heard Scotland is incredible, have not been yet. Also, Paris is much cheaper these days! It's nice. I would survey my important wants from the trip and start from there.

Good luck.

Have you priced your "dream" honeymoon to Venice? Perhaps if you cut some corners, you'll be able to afford it. I would start by calling some travel agents and researching on the web. But, generally speaking, going to Europe would probably be more expensive than staying closer to home. You didn't say what your budget was. A honeymoon can be as cheap as staying in a neighborhood b&b, and as expensive as a 3-month around-the-world cruise, it's really up to you. Figure out your budget and look into the possibilities. Depending on where you live, a cruise may be a nice, all-inclusive option (if you live close to a port of call, you won't have to spend money on the airfare). My husband and I really enjoyed our cruise, and it was around $5,000 for the two of us (balcony stateroom).

Have you considered Las Vegas ?- you get a bit of Venice, New York, Paris, etc in one city. Its not an insanely expensive city and the money you save on the travel can be used to get a great room, see some shows, or see the Grand Canyon and other national beauties.

If you like the idea of Italy, but want something more vacation-y than Venice (beaches, food, hotels, etc), I recommend the island of Capri. It's a small adventure to get there (if you leave early, low travel stress), and it's just paradise. Ancient Roman ruins you can swim around, delicious food no matter where you go, crystalline blue waters with beautiful, tropical fish, and pleasant people. Here's one hotel I've stayed in:

Congratulations!

Venice is great, but it is very expensive. if you can't make it to europe you could always try New Zealand, not as expensive and it is beautiful.

Also Mexico is always great. Try something a little different, Like Playa Del Carmen Mexico or Isla Mujeres. Both places are beautiful and affordable.

what you should do is save the venice for your one year anniversary and find someplace fun in your own state.
I live in Utah (slc) we honeymooned in Moab in the off season (about 6 hours away) this way we had our car, great location, new places to go, far enough no one would bother us and we did not feel bad if we missed all the sights or did not get our moneys worth if we wanted to stay inside most the day.
You really don't want your honeymoon to be spend wanting to see it all! its nice to go to a place you can go out and enjoy different things with out the feeling that you have to.

My husband and I took a cruise to Cozumel, Costa Maya and Key West. It was great. We swam with dolphins, shopped Mexian shops, ate like royalty and had a beautiful balcony that we loved taking in the beautiful sound of the water at night. The shows on the ship are great too. I HIGHLY recommend Royal Carribbean.

Have you looked into any of the "All-Inclusive" trips? I live in Napa and I found (on expedia.com) some really good deals on these trips. The best part is that everything is included, so you know exactly where you are at financially. A trip to Cabo for instance was about 900 per person at a luxury resort. Good luck!

Fiji; Australia; England. Although they're all expensive. So I'd stick with Venice, because I've always wanted to go there too. Have fun :)
