I walked very very long distances ever since a child but i have no endurance for running, my muscles dont get tired easily because of my walking habit but im out of breath very quickly....any tips on breathing exercises for the jogging concious

So running runs in my family! It's amazing! i love it! they love it! my whole town knows my family for it! Well...last year around OCC's my knee started bothering me..i put it aside and said who cares...well then districts came and it got worse..whatever..by the time of Regional Finals not only was i tired..but my knee made it impossible for me to run!!! AHH!! i went to the doctors he said i tore my meniscus (SP?) and could possibly have to have surgery. there would be two kinds..one putting me out for 4-6 WEEKS!..the other for 4MONTHS!! that could ruin everything! i'm a junior..and i HAVE to go to state this year..well its only January and already my knee is bugging! what should i do?

Would it be easier to run long distances if having taken a couple of asprin or a shot of tequilla before running? Would it help the heart not have to work as hard?

I am thinking about doing CC next year. I am kind of uncertain because it is very "cultish" at my school and I have never done organized running before. I already do swim team and marching band, both very athletic, so I have the endurance and stamina but I dont know how different running is from swimming (other than the obvious). Can you do one if you can do the other?

Marching band and swim team are kind of cultish too and I am friends with most of the CC team (like football gets along with Baseball, Tennis and golf) there are all these teams that get along in certain ways (see ones listed above) at my school.

My school track and xc teams and a high school track and xc teams are coached and managed by the same people. Our practices are together but we obviously do different things. But every once in a while we do the same workouts and as a bunch of friends we run road races in the city. Lately I have been doing better than I ever have before. I beat almost all of the high school runners in a road race recently and just today I placed 4th-5th place in 5 by 300 sprints. I also am now first at my school in the xc 2 mile and second in my schools all time xc 2 mile. But now I face a delima. The high school that we are practicing with have very strong track and xc teams and in a few years will most likely be competing in state championships. The downside is that the school does not have very good educational values. Another high school in the city has top marks in education but does not have a strong track and xc teams. I love running but school is important. Where should I gonextyear?

Im hoping to join th police as a pcso but hasve got to do a fitness test you have to run a bleep test and Ive failed it twice I have 1 attempt left to pass it, ive got 6 weeks of hard training ahead of me, can anybody give me some advice on what to do in training and how to stop getting stitch everytime

Well in august i decided i wanted to run a marathon. Im young...21. In shape and probably under weight....6'3'' 170 lbs. I run as much as i can,being busy schedule being a college student. I'd say about 15-20 something mile a week. My knees (especially the right) have been hurting lately but only after i run....most of my runs are 6-10 miles at a slow pace (about 9:30 to 10 mins) The pain is sharp and i'd almost descibe it as a shooting paint. I wanted to do a marathon in march but i've had to cut back the ..that doesnt last long at all and sometimes hurts when i go down steps. Since i've had to cut back the miles because of the pain i'll probably do a half in march and a full in the fall...the farthest i've gone is 16 miles but that was over a month ago. I've been biking a lot to keep in shape but i know its not the same. Just want some input on the knee pain....or anything

I read on the croc website about a guy who runs marathons in crocs. I tried it for a mile, and my feet slid up to the front of the shoe. I'd be interested in hearing about others experience in running in Crocs. They are incredibly soft and light.

I run 12k once a week. Every now and then, the side of my abs (sometimes left, sometimes right) cramps out. It happens any time during the run. It forces me to slow down into a walk until it goes away before I can resume running. It's very annoying.

I love to rn. when i run i feel free. but when i tell myself i am going to run today i feel scarced. scarced of what i don't know. but when i force myself to do it i love it. i want to know, if 3 times in my neighborhood is a mile, and all i can do is 2 times around, can i train myself to run 3 miles by April? is that possible? i was thinking that everyweek i can try to do one extra lap and then the last week i can just run that mile. like there are 4 weeks in january, so i can run 2 laps this week, 3 laps next week, and just pratice runing a mile for that month. then increase that way for the other months. i am doing this for my track team.
