With my work schedual it would be more convenient for me to run before work in the mornings. How long should I be awake before starting my run? I attempted to run one morning about 20 mins after getting out of bed and I felt my body wasnt enough awake and was struggling to run basicaly. I typicaly run after work at night which tends to be between 9-midnight.

I have been told by several people, runners and non-runners alike, that I am underweight(M/5'8"/120lbs). And I have to admit, I've been rather weak after workouts, and at my job (which I'm on my feet all day at). As a marathon runner, I fell into the line of "lighter is faster" thinking, ignoring the fact I was burning muscle w/the fat. I can't really scale back my mileage too much, as I have a marathon coming in April...any guesses as to a better weight for me? In addition, how much more caloric intake should I have to gain muscle and not fat?

today i went running outside, like i always do. but my left ankle was hurting me, not enough to stop but enough to feel pain. I always run on cement, so I tried running on the grass but it only hurt more. Also, one of my right toes was hurting, like a pull. do you think it's my shoes or am i injured? should i stop running for awhile??

My husband walks a lot. Sometimes up to 5 miles a day. He has been having problems with his heels and arch since he bought his latest sneakers. So much so that his heels pain when he walks barefoot and he can't put his full weight on them in the morning.
I want to replace them for him but have no idea where to start. They need to have great cushioning and support and I am finding it hard to find real reviews of athletic shoes. Lots of places rate the stores but not many the shoes.
Anyone know of a great site I can check reviews or get information on what would be good for him.

Thanks a lot
Nadine

PS: He's also active in some sports and some running so something all around would be good but right now the focus is on the walking.

I am a sophmore in high school and I just missed a season due to a stress fracture. My best time as a freshman was 29:56. :( It's pretty bad and I'm sure the season off didn't help. I've just started training again. I'm not overweight, I'm active, and I'm really fit. I've done lifeguard training, even. I love XC but I just can't get my times up, even after working on my form and everything with my coach.

Can anyone think of a way that I can train or something to get my times up for next season? I really want to be as good as much as I love this sport.

whats the best way to go from a 5 step to a 3 step???
i currently do a 5 step, but i feel like i have to slow myself down in order to get the 5 steps in
ive tried 3 steps once or twice during practice, but ive been too scared to jump cuz it seems like i wont make it over
anything i can do to make the transition better/easier???
i would like to do a 3 step as soon as possible so i can improve my times- 5 step makes me feel sooo slow
im only 5'2", so my strides are shorter than most peoples and i dont want to do a 4 step and have to switch my lead leg

I went to one store and they said "BUY" a Horizon, which is a lot more. Just need some opinions before I buy the Ironman.
