whats the best way to go from a 5 step to a 3 step???
i currently do a 5 step, but i feel like i have to slow myself down in order to get the 5 steps in
ive tried 3 steps once or twice during practice, but ive been too scared to jump cuz it seems like i wont make it over
anything i can do to make the transition better/easier???
i would like to do a 3 step as soon as possible so i can improve my times- 5 step makes me feel sooo slow
im only 5'2", so my strides are shorter than most peoples and i dont want to do a 4 step and have to switch my lead leg

I would practice running without the hurdles, and focusing on your stride. The only way to go from 5 to 3 will be to learn to run with a longer stride, period. Ask your coach for 'stride lengthening drills' or google it. If I have time I will try and research it.

oh yeah...also try running parallel to the hurdles and practice jumping until you get the confidence to do it!

Doesn't matter with you being only 5'2 Gail Devers was short too but was one quick one over those hurdles. Do this drill in practice, even your practice drills(lead/trail leg march drills) should follow this

First, the hurdles must be brought in closer. Shorten the distance between the first and second hurdle so that you can 3 step without bounding.( about 2 steps one foot in front of the other)
* Use your feet(2 of your feet) to walk off the distance you moved the hurdle from the original marks, now walk off the same distance for all of the other hurdles.
* Run these in practice till it feels like you are getting too close to the next hurdle then move all the hurdles a step forward.
* The transition takes time, do not force the 3 step, so "just run" go over the hurdle with what ever leg comes up. Eventually 3 stepping will occur by itself.
