My husband walks a lot. Sometimes up to 5 miles a day. He has been having problems with his heels and arch since he bought his latest sneakers. So much so that his heels pain when he walks barefoot and he can't put his full weight on them in the morning.
I want to replace them for him but have no idea where to start. They need to have great cushioning and support and I am finding it hard to find real reviews of athletic shoes. Lots of places rate the stores but not many the shoes.
Anyone know of a great site I can check reviews or get information on what would be good for him.

Thanks a lot
Nadine

PS: He's also active in some sports and some running so something all around would be good but right now the focus is on the walking.

Nadine, What you should do is go to a running specialty store (they also do walkers) with your husband and have him describe the problem. If it is a true specialty store (not Sports Authority or Foot Locker) they will listen to his problems, watch him walk to analyze his pronation, gait, ect, and then recommend shoes.

Some of these places even have 30-day return policies that say if you don't like them and they aren't working the way the store personnel said they would, you can return them..unlike many 'generic' retailers that will only take them back if they are in exactly new condition

Ok, I also have had severe heel and knee pain as well. I went out and bought all the insoles I could get my hands on, but found that what was causing my heel and knee pain was the way I was sitting. Does your husband sit indian style?

If not, I know the BEST shoes you can buy for comfort. I am telling you this because I am a tennis shoe junkie, and I have lots and LOTS of pairs. (I even have the Nike Shox someone else just told you to get and they are TERRIBLE... no more comfort than a wal mart brand and at a $120 price tag.) The very best in comfort that I have found is called Saucony. I would do an internet search for them so that you know what you are looking for. NO OTHER shoes have been better for my pain. (I have tried Nike, Adidas, Air Walk, Reebok, and many many others... ) My second favorite pair is a pair of New Balance... they are pretty comfy as well.

Good luck to you, and I hope this helps you!

If running/walking is his biggest concern then I would suggest Brooks running shoes. You can't beat the heel-to-toe balance on them. They are a bit pricier but it's for a good reason. (side note: Nike Shox are for looks only, they actually increased my back pain)

Go to http://www.brooksrunning.com if you want to find the best one for your husband.

Most probably the best type of shoes is spike shoes(it's a type of shoes where we have spikes below the shoes attached to it)If u wear it u'll get extra grip and makes it easier to run.U get this type of shoes in Nike as well as Adidas. It might be a bit costly but it is useful.

I would say get a pair of Asics (I'm not sure how to spell it) running shoes. They have a good arch in them, which adds support.

I love New Balance shoes. They have lots of different ones - walking, running, everyday ones.
