On some level, he has the genetics, but also the time to task his body completely.

People who are predisposed with an abundance of slow twitch muscle fiber are much more suited to ultrmarathoning. He also probably has a favorable lung capacity, and robust joints.

The mental aspect is as important as the physical. That's where must of us will fail.

The other thing in Dean's favor is that he can make a living at this. Being able to dedicate your life to endurance is a luxury few of us have. Your chances are better if you live and breathe it every day.

Can anyone do 200 miles? Probably not, but I think genetics play less a role than we might imagine.

Anyone can run 200 miles - the only question is how long it takes you. Karnazes has some incredible accomplishments, no doubt, but anyone can stay on their feet for 200 miles if they have enough mental resolve.

he's pretty special, but if there were others that had the same drive and practice I'm sure that they could give it a run for the money.

If they're so obese that they can't support their own weight, then I doubt they can run 200mi. Thus, not everyone can run 200.

well, since he ran it for a girl in the hospital and with no help but his family offering him food and water, then id say thats pure determination.
