My question is, why are people here undervaluing the skills, career, and impact of Johan Santana?

I see a lot of answers saying that Ian Kennedy, Philip Hughes and Joba Chamberlain shouldn't be included in a deal to bring Santana to the Yankees.

Are you people crazy, or do you just not know enough about Santana?

Santana is 28 years old, with a career record of 93-44 (.679 %.) That is the 6th best winning percentage in the history of baseball.

He has won 2 Cy Young Awards, and 1 pitching Triple Crown.

He's led the league in WHIP the last 4 seasons, and his career WHIP of 1.069 is 16th best all-time.

He has pitched over 200 innings the last 4 seasons, and has also had over 230 strikeouts in each of those seasons.

His strikeouts per 9 innings is 9.50 (5th all-time.)

His strikeout to walk ratio is 3.79 (6th all-time.)

The man will be a legitimate ace for years to come, and is the most dominating pitcher in the game.

You wouldn't give up any of those guys for him???

in 2007 the Cleveland Indians faced Johan Santana 5 times and went 5-0 against him. Santana is not invincible. If people are still critical of CC Sabathia folding like a cheap accordion in the ALCS, what about a stat like 0-5 against a team that beat the NYY in the 2007 ALDS and could have even with Santana? Having Santana in 2007 in the ALDS clearly would not have guaranteed victory. So - is the guy really worth mortgaging the farm for? As an Indians fan, Santana going to the NYY does not faze me at all. Not when the Tribe was 5-0 against him.

A-Rods new contract really does prove that he only cares about himself and not the team. the yankees are dumb for signing him to that long of a deal. It just goes to show that this is why he doesnt have a series ring and this is why the Yankees wont win a series for a while. A-Rod is a good player but he only cares about his individual accomplishments and not team accomplishments. What do you think about A-rod and his new contract?

Why would you trade the future of your pitching rotation in Hughes and Chamberlin? I would rather trade Ian Kennedy. And why dont they add Damon in the trade. It will give me more playing time to a better player in Melky and give a chance for Shelly Duncan to play.

I live in the US. I go to high school and my high school started last year. I live in Philadelphia and our school is on our own to get money. Me and friend of mine are selling baked goods that we have our parents to make, but we arn't making enough money or food to get the total amount of money we want to make. We were going up to about 2,000 dollars because the jerseys will probably cost around 100 and if we need extra stuff like baseballs, the left over money will be used for that. The only sports we have are basketball and soccer, but everyone is waiting for baseball to come and maybe football. I don't know what to do and I'm out of ideas on what to do.

If we have to give up any players (well, just Pedroia, Ellsbury, Buchholz, and Lester-Youkilis' name has been thrown around a few times) then count me out. They are the future of the Red Sox. I would rather have a good, solid team in five years that will be greatly competitive, then just a few good years now. Well, maybe I'm a little attatched to them, but still, we're set in the rotation (we have enough starters) but I don't want to give up Lester or Buchholz. We've already prayed for Lester to fight back from cancer, and cheered when Buchholz threw his no-hitter, so how can we forget that, and say,''What the hell, let's ship them to Minnesota for Santana?" Don't get me wrong, he's a great pitcher, but I don't want to give up prospects to get him.

What are your thoughts?

Here's my story, I have always love playing baseball, I've played the sport since pee wee, it was actually the first sport I learn how to play, basketball and baseball were the sports I played when I was younger. But when I first started highschool I believe I was 13 or 14 I stop because I wanted to try out a different sport, which was football. I abandon baseball to focus playing football. Now I'm 23 yrs old right now and 10 and 11 years has past, and I wanna get back into the game because I love it, and because I feel I have what it takes to go all the way to the majors, I have been going to the batting cages and continue to work out to get my body in playing shape. I plan on going back to school starting off at a community college in 2008 and see where it will take me. I do have the drive, commitment , and determination to do what I have to do, even though I do not have a support system which is so important for anybody who wants to chase a dream.

I was at a Chicago Cubs game on September 22, 2007 and the trivia question they had on the scoreboard was "What position did Dustin Eglseder play in high school?" A little help with this as well- Dustin Eglseder sang the 7th inning stretch that day and the winner of the contest the Cubs had (he is also my best friend).
