A-Rods new contract really does prove that he only cares about himself and not the team. the yankees are dumb for signing him to that long of a deal. It just goes to show that this is why he doesnt have a series ring and this is why the Yankees wont win a series for a while. A-Rod is a good player but he only cares about his individual accomplishments and not team accomplishments. What do you think about A-rod and his new contract?

I mean come on, Magglio Ordonez should have ran away with that MVP award this year because the only thing A-Rod brought to the table was his homers and RBI count. Maggs beat him in every other category. I think that the voters played favorites.

Wow all of this emotion over your opinion?
You are entitled to it as we are. People get over yourselves.
I'm a Yankee fan and I agree with you to a point. It has seemed that Alex is motivated by his personal stats and they have been placed higher than the Team. But this is just our perspective. Remember Baseball is a Team sport and looking at the Team, Alex did his part last year. Putting aside the awards, he batted .307 hit 54 HR's drove in 150+ RBI' and scored 120+ runs. He did his part to get the Yankees into the post season but not only did he stink in the playoffs the rest of the team did as well. Our Captain hit .163 for the series and the pitching was horrible. We need to stop blaming A-Rod for things out of his control.
The Yankees stuck to their original plan and after he opted out would not negotiate with Boras and Alex. Remember he came back to the Yanks. Signing the BEST player in baseball is a nobrainer.

It is against the rules to offer a player incentives based on how far their team gets during the regular season, nor can you offer incentives based on performance. Player incentives are things like games played or innings pitched. This is why MLB had to approve the revenue sharing portion of A-Rod's new contract. Managers don't have the same guidelines.

A-Rod's contract makes sense for the Yankees. They had no other alternatives at third base. If they dealt for Miguel Cabrera, then they wouldn't have the pieces in place to make a run at Santana (which fills a much bigger need). Money is no object for them. The contract he signed is for essentially the same amount of money as what the Yankees were going to give him if he hadn't opted out in the first place. It's an insane amount of money for one player, but they'll make it back in spades as he approaches Bonds' homerun mark.

You can't pin all of the Yankees post-season failures on him. Even in the Yankees glory days, they had guys put up lousy numbers from time to time and they still won series. Their pitching (especially the bullpen) is thin, and that's why they haven't been able to advance in recent years. If they somehow pull off the deal for Santana, A-Rod will definitely play in a World Series at some point in the next five years.

Most A-Rod haters are jealous. If you were offered that much money, you would take it. Don't blame the athlete for making money. Trust me, he makes the Yankees a lot of money or they would not have done it. Quit bashing him for not winning a Championship for the Yankees. It is a team sport requiring great input from all players to win. If one has a bad day, someone picks him up. This gives the off player confidence to play better the next day. The Yankees did not pick anybody up. That is too much to ask of one player. If you have ever played competitive sports before you would know that.

I just want to know why Torre is offered a contract with incentives for winning the World Series, but not ARod. I still like ARod - I think in a lot of ways he's a misunderstood guy surrounded by people with bad advice, and he makes some questionable judgments - but I think the home run incentives send the wrong message. Basically he's getting 30 million just for staying healthy, because he's obviously going to break the record barring a major injury. I think if you're going to put 30 million in incentives in his contract, at least some of it should be for postseason success.

I agree with the first two posters. Get off of A-Rod's case. The forum has over-dealt him enough crap. I disagree with you completely. He'll be an asset for 10 years, is worth the money because he will help us win and make our team a lot of cash when he breaks the HR records, and he does care about the team.

These arguments are pure jealousy that someone could be so outstanding at something that he loves to do and can make a fortune at. People with this opinion probably resent stellar employees at their company that make bloated salaries as a reward for hard work.

This is an immature opinion, in my humble opinion.

First at least Marino was in the position to win a SB... A-Rod has never even appeared in a WS game...
Second this contract makes only Boras look smart... He still stands to make some $14 mill off this deal... So anyone saying that the intended "snub" of Boras made a statement is stupid...
Both sides(A-Rod and the Yanks) are perfect for each other because they only care about themselves and the "historic" incentives written into the contract prove this...
Third, don't give me this garbage and perpetuate the myth that any working American could walk away from their job and thumb their nose at their former employer and then come back to them in two weeks and get a better salary after acting like that... IT JUST DOESN'T HAPPEN THAT WAY...

A-Rod is worth only what the owner will pay for him so it is not his fault. If your boss offered you a substantial raise would you take it?

As for not winning a ring. Do you put Dan Marino in same category cause he never won Super Bowl?
