Okay I've never really been the church type of girl, my family never really went, but about a year ago my mom and family started going and I never really went with them. Then one sunday I decided to go and when I left I just felt safe and proud for some reason. and this week my little 5 year old brother has vacation bible school and I really wanted to go and help out. So today I went and volenteered to stay and help with all the activity's the little kids are doing. and it's for the rest of the weel and I'm going to keep going and helping out because it really makes you feel good inside. But I've kinda always been iffy about the whole god theory. I want to believe so bad but I'm a very logical person and it doens't really make sense. Like how come some people say oh yeah god was with me thats why I lived or whatever but half the time people get murdered and die and stuff but why doesn't god help them too? I just wanted to know if it was weird that I felt this way and could someone.....

What do you all think of this quote?
Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it.

No. I didn't think so.

Someone here posted these two lies tonight as part of her answers to questions. I will give her the benefit of the doubt and presume she is just ill-informed. Otherwise I'd have no choice other than to think she hates Catholics and intentionally spreads such untruths.

In one response she said, "When did Jesus actually say to pray to his mother for forgiveness? "

Umm...He didn't. And I don't know anyone who thinks Mary can forgive sins.

In another answer she said that Catholics put Mary first.

I don't know a single Catholic who does either of these. I'd love to know where she is meeting these people.

I will be presumptuous and speak for all one billion of my brother and sister Catholics world wide. I don't think they'll mind.

CATHOLICS PUT GOD ABOVE EVERYONE AND EVERYTHING ELSE.

ONLY GOD CAN FORGIVE SINS.

Got it?

It's a matter of opinion. What do you think?

Just so we can straighten this out once and for all--Satanists neither believe in, nor worship, Satan. They don't believe in the Bible or God either. If anything, they would be said to worship self. "Do what thou will" and so on. They believe strongly that animals and children are not to be harmed, and they don't do human sacrifice--who would they sacrifice to anyway if they worship no one?

Luciferians are the ones that worship Satan, they see him as the good one and God as bad. I don't know much about them, as I have never met one to discuss religion.

Anyone else have anything to add about these particular religions? I mean, anything that's not cruel and ignorant, please. These guys are a legitimate religion too, even though you may not agree with them, they have as much a right as you do to exist and practice their beliefs.

If they do not believe, why do they care then? Do they have no lives? It makes no sense whatsoever.

That's like someone who has NO interest in cars constantly going to a website forum about cars and complaining about how much of a waste of time it is.

The Divine exist, it could be a wonderful force that oversees us, a singular God, a series of gods, nature or many other ideas of a greater being. We can believe in humanity and that is divine, we can believe in a figurehead (god, Jesus, Allah) and that is divine. We can believe in the harmony of all life and that is divine. Divinity is owned by everyone and divinity owns us all. By using the term GOD, the argument becomes polarized because of course some do not believe in God. They still believe in something. An Atheist does not believe in the figurehead God.
The atheist does believe in something such as science, logic, and the intrinsic human good. Their logic is therefore the divine.
Worshiping a higher figure such as God or gods is divine.
Worshipping nature and all she provides us is divine.None is better than the other, none is perfect. It is human nature to cherish their divine belief. Share your love for your God, your logic, your divinity by allowing others too.

I don't know how many times I've heard theists claim that they have a personal relationship with what ever God they believe in. The Christians claim it, the Jews claim it, the Muslims claim it, the Mormans claim it, they all claim to have a personal relationship with all these different Gods. Let me ask you theists this, how do I know which one of you is telling the truth or if any of you is telling the truth???? Never once in my life have I seen anything that is even remotely supernatural. I certainly don't hear voices in my head telling me my beliefs are right as most theists seem to, which reinforces my atheist beliefs. Given the choice to rely on myself and myself only vs. relying on some supernatural being that no one can prove exists, I'm going to choose myself.

It seems the majority of accounts getting deleted are atheists

There also seems to be less muslims, pagans and buddhists then there was 6 months ago.

My wife, another atheist, has had her account deleted twice in that time.

Is there a group in R&S that are working hard at trying to turn this into a "christian only" forum and shutting out those who wish to indulge in a robust debate about issues of faith?

Could it be that those running Y/A have a bias toward christians?

Oh thats right Jesus was taken up - along with Enoch and Elijah

Not one of the 40 historians of the day note jesus in their work -

Yet in the bible written long after jesus - we are told he turned water into wine walked on water and was taken up into the sky

You'd think someone outside the bible would have noticed this

If there was a rumour of a guy in Canada who turned water into wine there would be no stone unturned and no house not searched -

But back then not one of the 40 historian's even make so much as a foot note

So the only thing we have to go on is the bible itself -
John from the Revelations dog and pony show - wrote in a proper Greek - Yet in the Gospels we are told he was inable to read or write Many other "gods" were born of a virgin - dead and risen 3 days later and many other "myth's" include 3 Kings
Yet - we are now to accept it is more than myth when it is clear none of it happened and it was copied from myth
Why do peole believe?

I don't actually think that is possible, some people just love to hate...or at least antagonize ((ahemcheeseandriceahem)). I would just hope that at least for the duration of this question, we could possibly put doctrinal differences aside and try to be nice :D :D :D. How about you choose (at least) 5 people and say something nice about them (that would be 5 people that you usually wouldn't want to say something nice about). Look at some of their other posts/questions and actually find something positive about them. I will write something nice about the first 5 people who respond to this.

Y'all know me by now, I'm cheesy, (not cheesy and rice though), what can I say. Oh and I also want to apologize for anyone who has been offended by my posts in the past, especially CM, I haven't been the nicest to her.

Now go.....

What is the difference between someone who says...

"I'm glad I'm not like those sinners over there who do such and such while I pray and try to be good."

and someone who says...

"I'm glad I'm not like those religious types over there that judge people while I don't judge people at all"?

What attitude should one have?

Okay, I happen to drive by on your street late at night, simply to find your address, but not to call or bother you at that late hour.

Incredibly, I see that your house is on fire. No one else seems to notice; no alarms are going off and no fire department at the scene.

I sit in my car, wondering if I should disturb you with such information. You might not believe me if I tell you that your house is on fire; you might be angry and hateful, and say that I am hateful.

As I watch the fire consume your house, and wonder what I should do, I see an escape ladder come out of a bedroom window and family members half climb half fall down. The FD arrives and fights the fire.

As I visit you in hospital, and learn that one of your children died from the fire, and you were badly burned, you discover that I, your friend, sat outside for over half an hour with full knowledge of the danger, but never tried to warn you.

Do you still consider me to be your friend?

Joseph Smith stated that without the ordinances and authority of the priesthood no man can see the face of God and live (D & C 84:21, 22). He also said that he saw God in 1820 (Joseph Smith 2:17). Joseph Smith, however, never received any priesthood until 1829 (D&C 13). How did he see God and survive? In which was he in error: his revelation in D & C 84:21, 22 or his experience in the grove?
