Because protestants don't believe that Mary is any more holy than any other believer. For them, praying to Mary is praying to a false idol or god.

Well, I'm Protestant so I'll attempt to answer. First, when did Christians begin to pray to Mary? And why? The timing you give would put it about 500 years after Christ's death. I'm also not too sure that the statement is completely true. Who says all Christians prayed to Mary for the past 1500 years? I've never heard that before.
For my answer, I define "Christian" as the practice of following the teachings of Christ himself and trying to be Christ-like. I don't know of anywhere in the Bible (whether Jesus himself said it or anyone else) where it says that we should pray to Mary. Jesus told us to pray like this: "Our Father, who art in heaven..."

In the 3rd Century, A Roman King Constantine believed in Christ and made Christianity an official religion. But the Christianity that time followed traditions and mixed it all. Worshiping mother Mary is also one of those traditions bcos its not biblical to worship anyone other than God himself. Later Martin Luther, protested and then started protestants movement and so they followed bible and stopped praying Mary. So from 3rd Century till Luther protested the church followed catholic traditions not the bible and so they all prayed to Mary and they still do.
Where is bible it says to that we should pray to Mary? I am happy atleast after so many years some one read bible and found the truth.

Why would I pray to Mary? She was just a person, just like you and I. She is not a god. She has no power to do anything for you, nor does she have the ability to answer pray. God, alone has that ability. It is a sin to try to communicate with the dead. So, I would never pray to Mary. Besides being a sin, it would be a terrible waste of time.

Why is that the Bible does not show any disciple praying to Mary or worshipping Mary? Why is it that she never wrote a book of the Bible? Why is it that when the crowd was trying to draw special attention to Mary and Jesus' family, Jesus said to the crowd, "Who is my mother?"

Not all Christians pray to Mary your probably talking about catholics and protestants don't ignore Mary they recognize that she was just a vessel that carried Jesus.

Anti-Catholic sentiment. Even the reformers had devotion to Mary, but their followers got rid of it in order to distance themselves from Catholic practices that could lead one back to Rome.

I do not think that ALL Christians pray to her. The catholics are the only group I know that pray to her and they are considered in the Christain faith category.

we simply recognize her as the mother of Jesus and not as a holy diety to be prayed to b/c of the commandment "thou shall have no other gods before me"
