Why do atheists bother to come to the religious section of Yahoo! answers?

If they do not believe, why do they care then? Do they have no lives? It makes no sense whatsoever.

That's like someone who has NO interest in cars constantly going to a website forum about cars and complaining about how much of a waste of time it is.

Because Christian fundies bother us with their religion and spread lies about atheism. Someone needs to educate them. ANYONE of ANY belief can discuss the TOPICS of Religion and Spirituality (note it DOESN'T say Religious and Spiritual). Besides, atheists happen to be some of the MOST spiritual people on the planet.

Do you see only dogs posting in the Dogs section, or only computers posting in the Computers section? Please turn your Thinking Cap ON.

I am an Atheist, and am very spiritual. This is NOT 'the religious section' as you called it, it is 'Religion and Spirituality".
I come to this forum because I have good general knowledge of most religions, a high degree of knowledge on Christianity and I am interested in religion. I enjoy broadening my mind by listening to others, and also enjoy a friendly debate.
Also spirituality plays a major role in my life and I come here to discuss it with others.
Never make the mistake of thinking spirituality can not exist without religion. Both Atheists and Theists can be spiritual.

Making fun of Xians is more fun than shooting dairy cows with a hi-powered rifle with scope.

I come here for the comedy and only for the comedy.
There's nothing funnier, more hilarious, than little people talking about living their lives for an Invisible Sky Critter fully believing that by some supreme act of mercy THEY were chosen to live in a country where Xianity is the norm. Never ONCE questioning WHY they were so lucky to have been born where they could chose to be Xian rather than to be born in Saudi Arabia where they'd have to have been Muslim or die.

And NO; Atheism is NOT a religion.
Religions have lotsa laws, rituals, rewards, punishments, propaganda AND most of all, FAITH in something that is completely illogical.
Atheism only entails a NON belief in The Invisible Sky Critter.
That's it; that's all.
If you believe in the invisible man you are a THEIST.
If you do NOT believe in the invisible man you are an ATHEIST.

First off, there is no specific section for Atheism. Since Atheism is recognized as a BELIEF system, just as Christianity, Islam, Paganism, etc...it would make sense for Atheists to ask their questions with the other belief systems.

Secondly, it's called Religion and Spirituality. The definition of "spiritual" is...

"Of, relating to, consisting of, or having the nature of spirit; not tangible or material"

Just my thoughts!

Atheists are just as much spiritual as anyone.

No, it's more like people who DO like cars (i.e. you) are constantly trying to make car manuals into laws, try to constantly tell others how great cars are, and who discriminate against people who do or don't like certain types of cars. Us car-haters are here to keep you in check. Left to your own devices you have already proven to come up with incarsitions and carsades.

its impossible for someone not to believe in something. if someone is an atheist and they think that nothing is out there then that is just as much a belief as someone who believes in a christian god. Do you think that the people you sit with at church have the same idea or concept of what god is that you do? we're all individuals with unique thoughts about what it is that we're a part of. so give your fellow humans a bit more respect, everyone cares about something.

Let me answer this for you. Athiests come into the religious section of the yahoo answers to shed some light on different issues pertaining to God. Yes we do not believe in God however because we do not believe in God we want other people to question their beliefs so that they could up to scrutinty, if their answers do not then we want them to really think about what they believe in. ALSO, Athiests are being asked questions about why they do not believe and so forth and this is the only section you can ask questions to Athiests. I hope that sort of answers yout question.

Heres why, we had a sermon about this sort of thing not too long ago. Innately we are programmed to know some sort of higher being. Peoples hearts have been hardened by the harsh world into believing lies of the enemy. They figure that if they just try to believe that nothing exists, they wont have to deal with being held accountable for the way they lived their life. They are on here because (and I know some will hate this) subconsiously and deep within them, they know there is more. Whether they want to bash it or are looking for genuine answers, their innermost being knows God exists but their flesh is preventing them from acknowledging Him. So, I guess it is not exactly like having NO interest in cars. It is like not knowing why you are having an interest in cars but deep down, you are really seeking cars.
