No absolutely not. There is no compatibility between the two as they oppose each other.

Dear Splendid,
It is indeed a splendid question which is in debate for so many yrs,as a matter of opinion that, is evolution and religion complimentary or contradictory? Should religious people oppose the teaching of evolution because is necessarily violates their beliefs or should they embrace it as an example of how the human mind can discover and learn about the very nature of our existence here on earth?
Very often, it seems as though evolution and religion must be locked in a desperate struggle of life and death - and, for some religious beliefs, perhaps that impression is reasonably accurate. However, the fact that some religions and some religious dogmas are not entirely compatible with evolutionary biology does not mean that the same must be true for all religions or religion generally.
Because there are such fierce debates over evolution, religion, and their relationship with each other, many questions are repeatedly asked about these subjects.
Because of this, the only way to really answer the question is to say: sometimes yes, sometimes no. Evolution does contradict certain religious beliefs and even at times, certain religions. Evolution is also readily compatible with other religious beliefs and other religions. Indeed, it should be noted that there does not appear to be any contradiction between evolution and any one entire religious tradition.
So its a ongoing debate and it entirely depend on individual to get insight on the compatibility or contradiction of evolution and religion or creationism.

Evolution theory is a religious belief that fundamentally requires adherence to the religion of atheism and/or the religion of pantheism. “Evolution” is a hypothetical, unobserved process (without any known scientific mechanism) by which all things in the universe are said to have created themselves from nothing without needing the existence of a Creator. Evolution is a hypothetical process of onwards-and-upwards self-improvement where all things somehow create themselves and somehow increase their complexity of their own accord.

I have thought about this question before and I think that the answer is no however this answer pertains to to old religions. Christianity and Islam for example believe in Adam and Eve, from what I understand they do not believe in dinosaurs because there is no mention of dinosaurs in the bible or the quran. Thus a strong muslim/christian could and would not believe in evolotion because it is not talked about in the bible/quran. Instead they will believe that all these animals existed in their same form today back then.
Religions such as Buddhism and Sikhism would be compatible to evolution. The underlying principle of Sikhism is that there is ONE god which is the asme for all religions. God creats and God distroys. Sikhism does not have a theory of creation but that God created everything. Thererfore evolution is compatible with this religion because as long as God is behind "evolution of species" then it is all fine and dandy. However most evolutionists aren't believers in God. In Buddhism I would say because it is more spiritual and not so much based on ancient scriptured it can be compatible with evolution.
"everything must be God's doing" then evolution can be compatible with religion, but with the story of adam and even and noha's ark, I do not believe evolution is compatible with islam or chrisitnaity but can be compatible with eastern religions such as buddhism, sikhism and hinduism....
i hope that makes sense.

yes I think they are compatable theories. The one is simply the nuts and bolts explaination of what happened and the other shows us the motivation behind it all. Both follow the same pattern. Each theory explains the holes in the other. They are two sides of the same coin. Where is the difference in the "Big Bang" and "Let there be Light"

The only thing evolution conflicts with is a literal understanding of Biblical creation.
Evolution has nothing to do with religion and in no way conflicts with the concept of God.
In short religion and evolution are only not compatible if your closed minded.
Science explains how and when things happen.
Religion explains why and for what reason.

Yes
Many religions have no problem with evolution, at least none of the ones that promote the use of the mind.

Evolution doesn't necessarily say that there is no God or any other divine presence. Evolution could just be the How, but not the Why.

They are compatible in that both require faith. Look at "Lucy" found in the Great Rift Valley of Africa. It is not a complete skeleton, but yet we have pictures of how she looked. Even though these drawings may be based upon solid principles, it still takes FAITH to believe that what is presented is true because no one was there to confirm it. If Leaky was looking for an ancestor and found this old skeleton of a monkey and presented it as a valid find, many would trust that what he saiys is true, would they not. This is based upon his reputation and prior work...or faith in what his expertise is saying.

They can't be compatible in a scientific sense, but you could combine the two if you believe that they are both a little true.

The Catholics are doing it.
Oh and bravo Catholics!
I do love you despite rubbing your face in the whole Gnostic Cathar thing.
It's a question of deciding to be rational.
Edit:
Judging by the reaction here rationality wins hands down, perhaps the chimps can settle down now that they know they are few.
Blessed Be!
