The original pronunciation of YHWH was probably YaHWeH. This seems to be the case by examining Jewish names. Many names contain part of the divine name, i.e. yah, and by examing the vowels that they used to construct their names with the divine abbreviation attached, we can get a feel for how YWHW was originally pronounced. We conclude from the examining names such as Joshua, Jehoshaphat, Elijah, and even the word hallelujah (hallel=praise; yah=Yahweh), that YH was pronounced as yah. We also have evidence that Yahweh is probably the correct pronunciation from examining the Greek’s tranliteration of the divine name as iaoue or iabe.

Also, if you appreciate my answers, please give me a star. If you think I'm not doing so well, what can I do better?

(Deke, please be NICE.)

Who was the first person to say that? Anyone know? I think it's a very good rebuttal, but I don't want to use it without giving due credit to the one who first thought of it.

I know many of you hate two scenarios:

A) Something looks like a interesting question, but alas, you click on it and there are 1,000 + Characters with added details which are all Bible quotes.

B) You are attempting to read the answers to one of your questions, but alas, someone answers with 10+ Bible quotes which you must now scroll through.

Can we please minimize this?

Can Bible quoting be done only if there is a QUESTION about the actual passage? E.g. You dont understand exactly what a certain passage could mean and would like R&S'ers input. I think this type of questioning is very valid and adds to the community's purpose as a whole.

We could name it Quote-the-Books Rule (QBR) instead to inculde the Torah and Koran to be fair, but I dont really see too many of those types.

Vote?

With the internet it is very easy to learn about science (going to ACTUAL scientific sites), politics, and just about anything. On top of that there are many different chat forums [and Yahoo Answers ; )] in which to engage in debate. There is so much to learn from, it used to be that you only learned from reading a book or from word of mouth, but now we live in an age where knowledge is broad casted over the internet.

I am a believer in Christ but I still feel as though my life lacks purpose.

Like Bono from U2 says..."I still haven't found what I'm looking for."

Did someone make this rule and God just had to go along with it? Or did he himself make the rule? And if he did, could he not have simply changed it and say instead that he would create a new star and that new star would cleanse our sins? If not, why not?
Or did he simply WANT a blood sacrifice to appease him? And why did he send himself as that sacrifice? Is suicide not a sin? What kind of example is that?

Is there anything but sheer lunacy in this whole story? What am I missing?

...We're talking about theists who actually DEVOTE themselves to something that other people believe is COMPLETELY IMAGINARY!!! Isn't it amazing that there can be such a conceptual RIFT between people in a society? Just thinkin' about it...

god and the higher realms are visited by shamens and prophets, why are they so hard to exept for people? i know that the universe is dark and its hard to think about light existing in a non-existant place but still it exists. the universe is vast, unlimeted, and eternal so why cant human be the same way? or something called "god" be the same way? do you atheists ever look into flowers and lightbulbs and wonder if this light is real and how it exists in people? are we just more thatn animals?

PLEASE READ ALL:My parents were foster parents for 18 years of my life, their first foster child was a baby named Jesse. Baby Jesse had 3/4 of his brain removed b/c of things his mother did. He had no brain function to have ANY motor skills or sight, ect. Basically my parents were told he just needed somone to love him till he died. My parents being believers, could not accept that. Baby Jesse started showing improvement after 3 mos. My parents continued to pray and try to convince the doctors he could see. Well finally long after he SHOULD have died,he was put up for adoption.Legally he had to do tests and be checked out, ect. Come to find out...w/o a brain, he could somehow see?! 7 years later, we kept in contact, and when he spoke with my dad he was so anxious to get off the phone to go ride his bike...? Keep in mind: NO brain @ all to have mobility. Some of the TOP doctors couldn't even explain it "logically". If God didn't do a miraculous work in his life, explain to me what did???

Those who post hateful comments and call yourselves christian consider this passage:

Galatians 5:22-23 (NLT)

22 But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!

Let's try to get to the bottom of this. Immature born-again's and "I only believe what I can see" athestics need not apply. Open minded realist's only please. If you know that the question of god's existance is still unknown let me hear your side. I am not interested in hearing "Jesus loves you" or
any Professor Leaky lies.
