In my experience, praying doesn't involve "looking" at anything. Generally speaking, the eyes are closed, and the head is bowed as a sign of reverence. Bowing the head and kneeling are both gestures of humility.

Because you show your respect by bowing your head before him.And hell is actually mankinds common grave.Back in bible times hell was referred to as gehenna,which was a place for trash and a place to burn people who who were already dead and were either not worthy of a proper buriel or there family couldnt afford it,so they were considered as trash and were burned with the garbage

As far as I know, First Nations people do not bow their heads when they pray.

As far as I know, neither do many Pagans (of various religions).

Bowing or prostration is a way to show your submission to God. Every religion uses some form of prostration.
