So why do some Christians behave as though that freedom only belongs to their faith?
From the gross overreaction to the Hindu prayer that was said in the Congress yesterday, I can only conclude that some Christians believe that the first amendment applies only to them and no one else. How sad.

Taken at face value, monotheistic religions are entirely amoral - You do what you're told out of fear of punishment and promise of reward. Following orders is not morality, it is merely self-interest.

Atheism allows for true morality, i.e. the judgment of good and bad behaviour according to conscience.

'Salad bar religion' is somewhere in between - You believe a god exists but you choose the dogma that seems right according to your conscience, rather than blindly following some particular interpretation of scripture, regardless of its moral value.

So... it seems to me that salad bar religion makes for bad theists, because you're not being blindly obedient as believers are supposed to be, but it can make for good people because you have the chance to exercise your conscience and do what you think is right.

Agreed?

Because so many of them seem to assume that I signed on to the same rules -they- signed on to?

First, I -am- perfect. I am exactly what I should be, at this time and place and under these conditions.

Second, unlike most of you, I know your book.

Third, I have no need to justify nonsense out of fear that if I don't some big invisible mute guy is going to drop me in a Lake of Fire or curse my kids for the next 9 generations.

So why accuse me of hypocrisy when, by -my- standards, I am entirely consistent?

Why accuse me of hate when I seek to open your eyes?

Why expect me to treat nonsense with reverence when it has led to such a long list of atrocities against humanity?

That you cannot question your god or hold him accountable doesn't mean -I- can't hold christians responsible for their hypocrisies, does it?

I have a very plausable way to prove or disprove the Koran, the Torah and the New Trestament all at once. To effect this event could cause a major war which would take the lives of untold numbers of people. Should I key the event? This is not hypothetical.

The difference here:

1 John 5:7-8 (New American Standard Bible)

7 For there are three that testify:

8 the Spirit and the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement.

1 John 5:7-8 (King James Version)
King James Version (KJV)
Public Domain

King James Version:

John 5:7-8

7For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

8And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.

If every word was inspired by God did he inspire the KJV writers to add that part to support the trinity doctrine?

Why would God inspire that and not inspire that in earlier and modern translations?

My point here is that is blasphemy to call a work of man the inerrant work of God when there are apparant errors.

Does this take away from the bible? No, the bible still is what it is, a guide to get you started on your walk with God.

How in the world can you say that Jesus is a part of God along with a 'holy ghost' when absolutely nothing of the sort was mentioned to Moses, who personally spoke with God and came down from a mountain with a list of his commandments. Moses' word about God has been the standard for the Judaic Faith for several thousand years, because he actually SPOKE to God (not to a trinity of gods, but to GOD).

So to you, I have two questions, please answer both:

1. If God was a trinity, why would he keep it a secret from His chosen people?

2. What makes you think you know more about God than a person who actually spoke to Him?

Luke 11:9

And I say unto you. Ask, and it shall be given you. Seek, and ye shall find, knock, and it shall be opened unto you

13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

What is the appropriate phrase to say to someone in a hospital who is going through surgery,

All I can think of is I love you and hope you are ok and if you need anything let me know and I will help.

---

When I said this last night on the phone the response was "I understand and I love you to" followed by a text message that I cheered her up. So I think I said the right thing for that moment in time.

All of a sudden you are expert judges who can tell us all those atrocities were committed by "fake" christians and not "real" christians.

If you cannot judge another's soul, how can you tell us the condition of the souls who, while alive and for all their life, piously believed and were told by the clergy that they were "real" christians?

Just a convenient way of shifting the blame for atrocities?

In what way does their christianity differ from yours?

I've heard this before and I want to see what people here think of it. The claim is that if a man lusts after a woman he is creating adultery in his heart. Some people take it a step farther claiming that the woman is sinning if she dressed provocatively. (This sounds dangerous to me, like the same line of thought that leads people to say that rape is a woman's fault.)

So is to woman to share the blame? What if she is addressed perfectly reasonably and the man still lusts? Is it her fault?

Most Christians would probably agree that the single person who most embodies God's will, at least the positive aspect of it, is that of Jesus Christ. But since all men have free will, any punishment after death is brought upon himself by each man's own actions. Satan merely does the "dirty work", providing a place and method for doing what, essentially, is a negative aspect of God's will. Is Satan ultimately evil, or ultimately good?
