I am not trying to attack the church. I'm starting RCIA classes in a few weeks, and am still struggling with the whole "authority of the church" thing.
From research I've done, it appears the church claims to have authority granted from God, even the authority to forgive sins. Essentially they're saying "we're always right". Yet they've been on the wrong side of many things throughout history. I just heard this morning about how they backed the Fascists in the Spanish Civil War.
So, it's hard for me to believe in this authority of the church now, when doing so in the past would have meant I was misled.
If the church had some sort of mechanism where the followers could believe in the church as a concept, yet still question the men running the church, I think I could be on board.

The History Channel recently predicted that a huge national disaster would cause most parts of the country to be shut-off from the electric power grids for at least 2 year; only large population centers would be furnished electricity.

What would you do if you didn't have electricity?

(Pssst - I am guessing this posting also has R/S applicability. Example: It seems that most churches have only a few windows, and very few ventillation systems for wood-burning stoves in the wintertime.)

please answer this honesty please. Only to these people who left please reply. That the christians were being too rude, judgemental, constantly in your face and pushy, Came accross too controlling, telling you that you are going to hell all the time, pretenders, etc. Now people if you left christianity because of these things and nothing else I want to hear back from you. I am a christian who has had in your face kind of christians and very pushy, I guess that is maily in America, but I am in Aussie Land. But I have had many Jugemental christians, I can't stand it myself, but that will not push me away from Jesus, nothing will. So people I need to hear about your experience of why you left Jesus, Jesus has never left you., infact he loves you. So I need to know what set you packing from christianity. Becasue I know some christians do push people away, expecially when that think that they are better than anyone else. To me they are Hypocrites. I like christians that pray for you, who

Anytime an atrocity was committed by christians, simply claim they weren't "real" christians and *poof*, the atrocity was -actually- committed by atheists who -thought- they were christian but actually weren't.

It's all the fault of atheists pretending to be christians.

"Real" christians never do anything atrocious. If they do, subsequent generations of "real" christians will strip them of their faith and turn them into atheists.

So when future generations of christians speak of you and how you did so little to stop global warming, I suppose they will say -you- weren't "real" christians.

Why should we wait for history to render that verdict? Why not render it now?

As you have judged others to falsely claim to be christian, so that judgment is laid upon you.

Isn't that what God promised you?

Before running for office, and after a failed coup, Hitler wrote "Mein Kampf" wherein he spelled out every policy he was subsequently to enact when he became chancellor.

No one in Germany can say they didn't know what he was, except through deliberate ignorance.

95% of Germany's population was christian.

A sizable chunk of the remaining population was Jewish.

According to today's interpetations of the bible, there is no basis for any christian to support Hitler's policies. Indeed, there are compelling arguments for opposing him.

Yet christians not only elected him, but supported him through all that he did till the very end.

Most were either Nazis or Nazi collaborators.

If so many christians could ignore scripture to support the likes of Hitler, why should we believe it cannot happen again?

Why should we believe the devotion of christians to christianity is any better today than the devotion of those christians who served Hitler?

"Experience" seems to be the reason theists are unwilling to consider the possibility of God's non-existence.

I've heard people claim they've experienced God or they've felt God's presense, but I'm not sure what they mean.

Are they/you speaking about unexplanable feelings? events? visions?

Due to popular responses from my last question, the Church of Farnsworthism is now open for business. When I pass the collection plate around please be kind enough to donate a minimum of $200 for your application fees. And if I catch ANYONE stealing from the plate my mutant spider-beast will hunt you down in the night.

Anyone object to Farnsworthism?

I have been through serious depression and now it seems to be getting better as i don't get as many panic attacks anymore. However, sometimes, when i asked help from God, he doenst seem to answer me. I feel frustrated about it at times and sometimes, it even leads to a panic attack. I feel that there's no one around to look after me and that I'm all alone. I'm really scared i'll backslide and deny him one day. I know it's not right, but sometime i do that unintentionally. :( Please help me! I want a close and personal relationship with him. How can i achieve that?

Mark 10:17
"....Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?"
Mark 10:18
"And Jesus said unto him, why callest thou me good? There is none good but one, this is, God."
Now with a serious note, to me Jesus just explained to the man and to you and me, that He is not God, by the logic that He is not good.
I am reading this correctly?
