by NT times, why is it sacriligeous to think Jesus was married?
Serious question-I'm not even entirely convinced in his existence but I don't see why the idea is so offensive to some.

I've seen the 'historical evidence' for the case of Jesus, there are no eye witness reports (outside the NT gospels and Gnostic gospels) and every mention has a very reasonable excuse why it's not a rekliable mention of Jesus

It is possible that Jesus married. Since scripture is silent on this, it is more likely he did not. Peter was married, and his wife is specifically mentioned. Either way, it is speculation.

Personally I believe He knew His mission was to die. He would not have wished to leave a family behind.

I don't care a whole lot about whether He got married, but there is no evidence whatsoever that He did. I would think that it would be mentioned somewhere in the Gospels if He were married. Anyhow, marriage wasn't His purpose so He wouldn't have done it. It would've hindered Him in His work bc then He'd have to look after His wife rather than spend time preaching or helping others.

Yes, Jesus did live, no serious historian doubts this. He's referenced a few times in extrabiblical sources, like Tacitus or Josephus. Not too much, bc as far as the Romans were concerned, He was a guy who was executed. However, He is mentioned nonetheless. Besides, why would the disciples make up this guy and then die for Him if they knew He didn't exist?

Jesus (if he existed) was nothing more than a human being. The stories of his resurrection are so much that, just stories. In fact, his body was, chances are, moved by Joseph of Arimathea (a rich, prominent member of society and friend of Jesus), without the knowledge of the uneducated, simple minded followers of Jesus. You must remember that the disciples were from very simple families and backgrounds, so the moving of the body would have seemed like a miracle. In addition the rock that closed the tomb was moved, hence pointing more to human involvement and certainly not an act of any all powerful being.
So back to your question, if Jesus did exist, then he certainly would have married and been like any other person. He was just a person who went around spreading his beliefs, which were supposedly of kindness and love. Which some people do today, but are not acknowledged for.

As Christians we believe that Jesus is God.
Knowing that His own purpose on Earth was to suffer and die a humiliating death, would Jesus have married, only to leave the woman a widow, and any possible off-spring fatherless?

With the importance of family central to Christian faith, Jesus having a wife would be inconsistent with the faith. Jesus' original design for man to fill the earth was based upon a father and a mother together to teach, love, and admonish their children.

The scriptures also teach that a few are given the gift of celibacy. Jesus was apparently one who had that gift and remained undefiled. To deny that gift would also be inconsistent with faith.

Why is it so inconceivable to you that Jesus remained unmarried? That's what the Biblical record shows.

Because there is no scriptural evidence of him being married. Its not that hard to understand. However, in order for a sacrificial lamb to be clean, it couldn't have had relations with a ewe, which would translate to Christ not being married.

Oh, and for further info, there is more documentation for the existence of Jesus Christ than what exists for Alexander the Great. Check it out for yourself.

Because they want to think of Jesus as pure and untainted by physical love. That's why alot of the holy men aren't allowed to marry and must be chaste. In all actuallity Jesus was a man, with hormones, whether he married Mary or not doesn't matter, he did sleep with her. The OT and NT were written by men, who err. They wrote how they thought it should be not with any eye towards facts.

Jesus wasnt married,He was celibate. He was not here to indulge in earthly pleasures, that was not why He walked the earth. Polygamy was not endorsed by God. Men made up their own rules.Notice what God says about marriage.

Genesis 2: 23And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.

24Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

Matthew 19: 4And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female,

5And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?

6Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.

Because the whole premise behind all of the Christian sects is that Jesus was above all that.

Read Bloodline of the Holy Grail, it talks about this. Very informative. But, it may be that final step towards reason if you are already questioning blind faith.

It does not fit with in the status quo and so because of that difference there are those who fight against it. There are also those who fight against it because it seam like a fun thing to do, or it seems like the popular thing to do. Others hate the idea because they are told to. There are numerous reasons beyond what I listed here, but that should give you at least some idea.

I'm not a religious person; preferring instead to believe in reality and science. I don't believe in polygamy because it causes problems for everyone concerned. I also don't believe in polyandry, much for the same reason.
