I agree with the suggestion of witchvox. I also, strongly, strongly, suggest http://wicca.timerift.net

Reading that page will save your teachers even more than you, as it will dispel some myths you might have before a teacher sees them!

There are many wonderful suggestions being offered, so I think think of anymore to offer you. I might want to email some of the people and ask some one on one questions.

Just remember that being a Wiccan isn't about magick, it is about self exploration. Each person follow their personal path to enlightenment, so if somebody says that you have to folow one way then you need to think about that statement and see how you feel.

I have been a Pagan and a Witch all my life and I became a Wiccan minister just for the religious credentials so I can marry and bury people and not have to go through the major paperwork that that entails.

Good luck and I hope you have a rewarding journey!

Brightest blessings.

The first thing I would suggest is to read Scott Cunningham's
"Living Wicca" it gives a really good overview of the beliefs and what is needed to become a Wiccan.

If you're looking to do some reading, I'd recommend "Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner" by Scott Cunningham, and "The Triumph of the Moon" by Ronald Hutton. I advise you to stay away from anything by Silver Ravenwolf, for reasons outlined in the following essay:

http://wicca.timerift.net/ravenwolf.shtml

Work with the Cunningham book and start living the religion -- day in and day out. See if it suits you. You can network with other Wiccans in your area and attend public rites via the Witches of the World section at Witchvox:

Just use the pull-down menus on the left to find individuals, groups, shops, and events in your area.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to email me.

Study for a year and a day with a coven, if you want to go traditional.

Or just study for a year and a day and do a self-initiation. But traditional Wiccans will say that doesn't really count.

http://www.wtichvox.com This may have some local resources you can use. They list groups, individuals and events by location.

http://www.thornandoak.com/wicca/becomewiccan.php

This ought to help you get started. Don't listen to other people telling you not to do it. They haven't any idea why your choosing to go down this path and IT'S NONE OF THEIR BUSINESS. There are a whole bunch of awesome websites for Wiccan users. If you just type Wicca into your search engine you will find what your looking for! Good Luck!

First, make sure you really understand what Wicca generally is. Read, read, and read some more. Some good authors to check out are:
Scott Cunningham
D. J. Conway
Patricia Telesco
Margot Adler
Silver Ravenwolf
Raymond Buckland
Ted Andrews
Migene Gonzalez-Wippler
Sandra Kynes

Also, a great website to check out is http://www.witchvox.com

Once you feel sure you know what Wicca is to you, then you can call yourself Wiccan.
