No matter your beliefs, faith plays an important part of everyone's lives.

According to my beliefs this defines faith:

Hebrews 11:1 - Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.

The word for faith is 'pistis' which is simply: conviction of the truth of anything

You have faith that you will wake up in the morning to go about your day.

You have faith that when you work you will get paid.

You have that science and medicine will solve some of our problems if it hasn't already.

Others have faith in a god or goddess.

Others have faith in humanity.

Others have faith in nature.

Today, how will you show faith in what you believe in? How can this be used to encourage others?

Do we need religion?

What exactly does belief in a "higher power", "creator" or whatnot offer humanity? Is there any positive at all to outweigh the negatives?

How do you define human experience? And do you think religion limits, stifles, and smothers natural human experience to an extent? Sex, partying, fun, philosophy, individual expression, individual thought process, bawdiness, humor, being wild, feeling carefree, believing in many paths...etc is all sinful in some way or other. So do you think religion, labeling so much of human experience as "sin" (almost everything in fact), is limiting many people?

Or do you think it keeps them docile, shameful, obedient, grim, naive, and obtuse --- and are those good qualities to have in a day and age where violence and craziness runs rampant?

Thoughts?

Please play nice, everyone :)

So what's happening in the Catholic church with their rampant pedophilic incidents. What is happening, what is being done about it, and what happens to the priests who are charged?

I think its ok to answer questions in any category, I mean you don't have to stay in one place, and feel guilty if you go to other categories, there is nothing wrong there. I think its interesting to see what's happening in all catagories, that's why I am putting this in the R & S section, so you know you did nothing wrong by going to other questions in different catageries. Does anyone thin this is wrong, I thought I heard someone saying it was wrong to go to other places except R & S, what does everyone think?

Are they comparing themselves to Dark Ages? Wow.
It's 2007, and Islam is the only violent religion in the world nowadays. Why don't they have the guts to admit their religion is a suitable climate for terrorism?
