Priests are removed from ministry and prosecuted. While sexual abuse is a very real problem among all Christian clergy, Catholic priests have the lowest incidence of abuse of all Christian clergy. For example, it is estimated that less than 2% of Catholic clergy have been guilty as compared to 15% + of Protestant clergy. Unfortunately, many Protestant ecclesiastical groups are still hiding the abuse of their clergy and not following the Catholic example of a no tolerance policy. I think that sexual abuse is so low , in comparison, by Catholic clergy because most take a vow of celibacy and honor their vow.
Even public school teachers have a much higher incidence of sexual abuse than Catholic clergy.

It is hardly surprising that in a church that demands its clergy to adopt a perverted, celibate life-style even to become a priest has a problem with sexual frustration. Pedophilia is a vile and disgusting example of this and comes to the public attention so strongly that it camouflages the even more prevalent abuse of women by priests. The Catholic church does what it does best in these situations, it denies and attempts to hide them: only when the information reaches the public domain do they make any attempt to excuse it or stop it.

you're making a faux assumption. look at how many republicans are paedohiles, yet we don't anticipate that given which you're a republican, you're the two a splash boy grabber or closeted gay. in basic terms re-study your fact. Yeah, the guy has to already have inclinations in direction of this variety of action. regardless of the indisputable fact that, the region is exacerbated by ability of being in a community which you recognize will conceal up your indiscrepencies

What Fr Joseph said is true - your child is safer with a priest than with a teacher or an uncle.
That being said - have you read this?
ABC's 20/20 to investigate Southern Baptist sex abuse
By Hannah Elliott
Published April 13, 2007
"[F]or years the press has complained that the hierarchy of the Catholic Church has enabled the hiding of sexual predators," Page wrote. "Now, they are stating that the lack of our hierarchy is helping hide sexual predators. The truth is that people can abuse any system. There are people who seek out positions in the church where the trust level can be so high that they can then be involved in horrible actions."
But one Catholic priest who says he tried to warn his denomination's leaders about the sex-abuse problems of the 1980s warned Page, in a March 30 letter, against downplaying the denomination's role in the problem.
In the communiqué, Thomas Doyle of Vienna, Va., wrote that bishops in the Roman Catholic Church, like SBC leaders today, said they lacked "direct authority" over any diocese to monitor the abuse problem. But in 2002, after the scandal threatened to shatter the church's very structure, Doyle said Catholic leaders created new rules for accountability within the institution.
"I am concerned by what I fear may be developing as a similar pattern in the nation's largest Protestant denomination," Doyle wrote. "Clergy sex abuse is a scourge that knows no bounds of theology, denomination, or institutional structure. To effectively address this scourge requires a strong cooperative effort."
He continued, referring to the SBC's in-house news agency: "Yet, in recent Baptist Press statements, I have seen that Southern Baptist leaders disclaim that possibility on the ground that the Southern Baptist Convention has 'no authority' over autonomous churches."
And while the hierarchical structure of the Catholic Church differs significantly from that of Baptists, SBC leaders should realize that the "no authority" argument is "actually quite analogous to what Catholic bishops were espousing prior to 2002," Doyle wrote.

NEW YORK (ABP) -- ABC's "20/20" examined the problems with clergy sexual abuse in the Southern Baptist Convention April 13, warning that some convicted "preacher predators" remain on an SBC's list of ministers available for employment.
The show also featured footage of Ken Ward, a former Southern Baptist preacher from Texas who admitted to molesting 40 boys during his tenure. Ward served five years in prison and is now under house arrest.
He said he knows that other predators think the same way he does.
"You look for a vulnerable child," Ward said. "You look for a child that is needy and lonely, because you take the father's place."
Ward said parents have it all wrong when it comes to protecting their children from sexual abuse. Instead of fearing strange men in dark alleys, they should be wary of trusted figures with unsupervised access to children -- such as Sunday school teachers or youth leaders who can manipulate children's emotional attachments to them.
Brown, a longtime advocate of reforming the way the SBC deals with abuse allegations, echoed Ward's warnings. Her efforts stem from her own experience with clergy abuse, which she said happened in 1968.
One unidentified victim of clergy sexual abuse spoke in the "20/20" segment. The boy, who was molested by music minister Shawn Davies in a Kentucky Baptist church, said he felt betrayed by God after the abuse. In an interview with "20/20" reporter Jim Avila, the boy's father said church members "turned their heads" when they learned about the abuse.
