No, it's not suicide; although the person is continuing to participate in a behavior that will slowly kill them, it is not done with an intent to die, but rather under the influence of an addiction, and therefore, is not suicide.

It's called enjoying the last moment. We're all committing suicide as well as killing others. We just choose not to see it from that perspective. I assume you drive a car, you angered someone or yourself, you ingested junk-food, drank alcohol, stressed out, had an accident. All these take time away from what we call life.
Death does not discriminate. The only difference is you may live longer but you'd end up like everyone else - me too.

Not sure about spiritually but definatly medically.
EG: My Ex is diabetic. His father was blind because of it, but it didn't stop my Ex from denying his dibeties for over 5 years. By the time I got his aneroxic backside to the hosptial his BSL was nearly twice needed to be in a Coma.
So he now admits he's diabetic BUT believes he "NEEDS" to maintain his BSL higher than 'norm'. Will alter insulin to force this to happen.
2 1/2 years ago his father (who took better care of his diabeties ONCE dignosed) died of a CVA. My Ex still abuses his body, that even my (then) 8 year old daughter realised that her father will die the same way her Grandfather did - only probably faster.
Yeah a slow suicide - & was prepared to drag his family down with him. Until I had to bail to protect us from his deteriorating mental & physical health.

By being alive you are engaged in a process which will inevitably lead to your death. Many actions will increase the probability of that death occuring from a particular illness or medical problem. None of them are calculated or undertaken with the intention of ending life so they are not suicide.

Kurt Vonnegut once said that he smoked two packs of unfiltered Pall-Malls a day BECAUSE it was the only legal form of suicide.
He died from a fall at the age of 84.

Not really. Yes, in a sense you are killing yourself, but suicide is not usually perceived as a slow process, but rather something instant, to end one's life.

If someone was told that, I am very sure they would continue to smoke...why not
they are gonna die anyhow...why give up
something that you enjoy...Commit
suicide? Maybe, but I would never Judge this person for his choice...Its not my place
to do this..

if you are consciously trying to die, then yes. otherwise, it's just a failure to overcome an addiction which led to your death. you still have to want to die for it to be suicide. even if you don't try to quit, it still wouldn't be suicide just so long as you don't want to die.
