Anytime an atrocity was committed by christians, simply claim they weren't "real" christians and *poof*, the atrocity was -actually- committed by atheists who -thought- they were christian but actually weren't.

It's all the fault of atheists pretending to be christians.

"Real" christians never do anything atrocious. If they do, subsequent generations of "real" christians will strip them of their faith and turn them into atheists.

So when future generations of christians speak of you and how you did so little to stop global warming, I suppose they will say -you- weren't "real" christians.

Why should we wait for history to render that verdict? Why not render it now?

As you have judged others to falsely claim to be christian, so that judgment is laid upon you.

Isn't that what God promised you?

I'm not saying they were Christians or not Christians, I say merely that these actions and atrocities done in the name of Christ do not line up with His teachings.

They are not "atheists pretending to be Christians." Atheists do not believe in God; these people do, they just have a different interpretation about His nature that allows them to perpetrate terrible atrocities upon the human race and feel great about doing it.

Unfortunately that whole "free will" thing that sums up our natures also allows people to be just as wrong as they want to be.

The "judge not" verse is often misinterpreted by all extremes. In context and consideration of original semantics, it is not a call to anarchy on one extreme or an excuse for ignorance on the other. Discerning the actions of a person or group of people in comparison to what they profess is hardly passing condemnation or judgement. Scripture repeatedly calls Christians to hold their actions to the standard of Jesus.

So, please pardon my rural upbringing, but you know a momma cat may have her kittens in the oven, but that don't make them biscuits.

Becoming a Christian doesn't make you perfect, following Christ more closely and fearing him and loving him will...

A Christian is any one who Romans 10:9 Confeses with their mouth etc...

Hitler probably was a Christian but it doesn't mean what he did was what God wanted done, just like the current situation...

All Christians miss the mark at some time or the other and mostly they hurt other Christians..

I am doing what i can to stop global warming, I have had my car changed to Petrol to LPG (gas), I turn of the electricity at the power points when I aren't using it... I don't leave lights on in every other room, I am doing what I can even though I think it is a crock, just because I should be a better steward of the earth which God has entrusted to us...

In order to be a "Christian", by definition, you have to be someone who follows the teachings of Jesus Christ.

If a person is committing acts that are against the teachings of Christ, then they are not a "true" Christian. Or at least not in the particular area of their lifestyle.

It also does not automatically make them an "atheist". There are lots of other religious chooses besides just those two, if you were not aware of it. Agnostic and deist are two that have played a large role in America's history.

But more to the point - on what are you basing the idea that a person who is a "Christian" is automatically not concerned about global warming?

You may want to actual find out something about the Christian faith. Your question seems to indicate that you are not all the familiar with what it teaches.

I would like to know what Christians have done to injure you personally. I would also like to point out that I've never heard anyone say that atrocities were/are committed by atheists. I'm not going to argue the point that people claiming to be Christians have done some evil things throughout history. There have always been individuals who, whether truly evil or simply misguided, have used religion to excuse their actions. I do admit that I have said that someone was not a true Christian based on their actions--Jesus said if we love Him we are to keep His commandments (1-Love God with our whole being & 2-Love others). He also said "By their fruits (outward evidence, or behavior) you will know them." Based on this criteria, I can certainly tell whether or not anyone is behaving in a Christ-like manner.

The problem is that they were christian who committed the atrocities. Albeit misguided ones.

Also, it is a rather large generalization that is being made by you and those christians who say that about past and future atrocities.

I for one am a 'green ' christian. So if I am being judged simply because the whole group is judged then that present and future judgement is wrong.

Just like it is wrong for any christian to say that our ancestors weren't christians who did those thing in the name of God.

The only thing I can say about them is that they were sorely misguided. I cannot make a judgement on the state of their salvation or if they were christian or not. I'm not all-knowing that I can make that judgement.

They certainly did some nasty stuff. Christians do some nasty stuff, and they will do some future nasty to be sure.

Not all Christians ignore the past. That behavior is typically associated with people who are more interested in propping up their current dogma than in looking at reality. 100 years ago, their philosophical ancestors were arguing that Slavery was Biblically ordained and that it would be a sin to give a woman anything to reduce the pain of childbirth.

For many people, their religion is a crutch for their biases, and not a source of guidance. This is true of many faiths aside from the Christians.

As another said, do not allow yourself to become bitter because of the actions of others. I am guilty of this myself (becoming bitter).

I try to point out where Christian behavior is directly contradicting the teachings of Jesus (and sometimes some apparent inaccuracies in the Bible), and I think you are doing the same here. These are legitimate concerns. Everything bad is so conveniently placed on shoulders other than those of Christians because of the odd perception that Christians can do no wrong and are immune to negative group behavior.

We must each watch out for our own transgressions, but to those of who you instantly condemn this question: allow others to be a mirror of your actions, if not you yourself. That is, let no one be you, but learn from those around you who provide feedback on your "performance," so to speak. This question, among many others, is necessary...

EDIT: Hypocrisy should always be pointed out. We should not condone the behavior of non-Christians who hate, but Christians are especially responsible because of their insistence that they follow Jesus and are a moral authority.

Most people who go to church weekly are no more Christian than spending time in your garage makes you a car. (Good bumpersticker, that.)

People who feel the need to "justify" past atrocities or foul policies (such as the USA's Manifest Destiny that condoned the subjugation of our native peoples) need to think about their own feelings of guilt instead.
