Hypothetically, if God took a day off or disappeared, would you no longer care for your children? Pay for your food? Say "please" and "thank you"?

My boyfriend is Baptist and I am Atheist. We took a day trip one day and I brought along the book The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins and my boyfriend was utterly appalled upon reading the jacket of the book. He said it was disgusting. I reminded him literally 'not to judge a book by its cover' since he had not read its contents. Yesterday I purchased Letter to a Christian Nation by Sam Harris and was reading it while he was in the shower this morning. He jokingly said not to read those kind of books while he was around. He did say this playfully and I just brushed it off but I am worried that he will become increasingly intolerant of my beliefs with the more he learns about how strongly I feel about the subject of religion.

We plan on being married one day and having children together. I know this can be resolved because he actually is a very understanding person but I would like to resolve it before it comes a bigger issue in our relationship.

why do people treat the bible as if it is pure fact? that everything in it is 100% correct. if you lived by the bible almost everything we do now is a sin. so why can some people not realize it's out-dated? why is it that people disown their children because the bible says homosexuality is wrong yet the bible also says pre-marital sex is wrong and you don't see people flipping out about that or other things that the bible says are a sin? not to mention the majority of overly religious people are rude, narrowminded and judgmental. they look down on anyone who does not believe what they do. do you think God would want you doing that? (i realize not all religious people are like that) i would like to get a variety of opinions on this please.

In the Bible, it says that true Christians can safely drink poison, speak foreign languages without studying them, and heal the sick. Why don't I ever see people doing these things?

Mk.16:17-18 "And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover."

Lk.10:19 "Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you."

If there are any fragments in the Bible that explain that, could you tell me where they are?

Also, if you have a favorite parable, could you explain it?

Josua ben David' real dad is not known to to common history. Mary's family must have inherited the wealth of her ancesters. Rabbi's, at that time, covered all costs associated with their "seconds." I'd leave my fishnets for a life of travel and teaching too.
Seems like the Romans did get the trade routes and proceeds that went to the Temple after all.

Is there a catholic out there that can justify the change? Because I am sure that the Bible says that nothing on It can be changed.

I know one that's difficult to discuss during life , but often becomes easier after the loss of a loved one . And that thing is the ever-lasting joy and painless ever-lasting life with our Lord . During life we focus on life, life as we know it anyway . But after this life is eternal life free from all our troubles and sorrows . Free from pain and suffering . A whole New Life hardly imaginable when we are living what we currently refer to as life . And that's understandable, but not to be forgotten ever . As a Christian we are told of this regularly, we believe it, but it's hard to grasp when we're dealing with our current life struggles .
Before I go and listen to your thoughts, remember this. . . . .. . . .. . The Lord Jesus Promised This Ever-Lasting Life To Us All . .. . .Doncha Think It Might Be A Good Idea To Believe Him And Just Trust Him ?

What Are Your Thoughts ?

You have two men:

The first one is a good man, is kind to all the people around him. Good to his family, good to his community and society as a whole. He was not born in a Christian country and though he knows about Christianity took another religion instead of it.

The 2nd man stole, murdered, and did every horrible thing known to man. He was never a Christian but on his deathbed converted to Christianity.

Where will these 2 men end up in the afterlife?

Does it make logical sense?

Don't say that homosexuality is a "choice." Why would someone make the conscious decision to be ridiculed and discrimnated against? If homosexuality was REALLY a choice, do you think people would be choosing to be gay? Why would someone choose to be an outcast?

If homosexuality is a choice, then that must mean heterosexuality must be a choice as well. Does this mean that I made the conscious decision to be attracted to women?

Hell no. I couldn't break my attraction for women if my life depended on it. Ones sexual preference is totally innate. You'd have to be high on Jesus to believe otherwise.

Since I keep hearing Christians bemoaning that teachers cannot lead students in prayer in public schools I think I’ve worked out a solution.

Mondays is god day: Every Monday teachers would lead students in a prayer to a god. The first Monday could be Thor, the next week Yahweh; the next week might be Quetzalcoatl.

Tuesday is Goddess day: We would tell the students that the previous god was total nonsense and they would be lead in prayer to Isis one week and maybe Hecate the next, etc.

Wednesday is atheist day: Students would be told that the previous days were nonsense and they could celebrate themselves.

Thursday is agnostic day: Students would be told that agnosticism is the only viable philosophy and what they heard Wednesday was total nonsense.

Friday would be free choice: Students would be given megaphones to make what ever pronouncements they would like to.

Or… We could spend our time teaching math, literacy and science.

Do you automatically give a thumbs down? I answered someone to forgive themselves and it would be easier to ask Jesus for forgiveness and got thumbs down. LOL

Suggest that the world should devide into two parts, not two parts as now white & colour. Non believer will separate with believer, suggesting that believer dont need to use electric, gas, television, fashion, ....and most important the money, because they are sin which are invented by human, not god at all, which will incite people to struggle for life. Just let the non believer use them. Is this OK to all blatant believer? OK then pls step aside, and let our society out of your atrocity, your ARROGANT PEACOCK to run around to teach people how to live.

1) Liberals are relativists and hate Christians because Christians believe in absolute truth.

2) Liberals do not want anyone to say that immorality is immoral.

3) Liberals are selfish and are more interested in their “feelings” then they are with what is right for others.

4) Liberals misunderstand what Christians really believe.

5) Since liberals see themselves as the superior enlighten ones they do not recognize that taking a position against their position is not automatically hate.

I read through the answers to a question just asked about a non-believer and a Christian getting married. I'm in the same situation, and I found it actually sad that so many said either "he needs to find someone else" or "he's not gonna marry you unless you're on fire for the lord."

Why? Why should religion stand in the way of true love? I fervently believe my fiancee is my true love, and we were meant for each other. So what if I don't believe? He doesn't mind it. So how could anyone be so hurtful as to say things like that?
