Hypothetically, if God took a day off or disappeared, would you no longer care for your children? Pay for your food? Say "please" and "thank you"?

If there was no God, there would be no point in living and no reason to respect anything. If there was nothing special about us, if we are all just animals produced by random chemical reactions and mutations, then nothing matters at all. If there was no God, I would rob banks every day and kill anybody that cut me off in traffic. I think the only reason that the entire planet doesn't behave this way is because even in the darkest, shriveled up corner of the most evil soul, everybody innately knows there is a God, there is an afterlife, and we better act accordingly.

I don't believe God exists and I behave. Why do "believers" think if there was no God ppl wouldn't be able to act right? Laws and norms is what keeps us inline, not God.

Actually if God took a day off I guess al-queda would be outta work?

Yes.

It is a weak morality that would not exist without watchers and judges.

Of course, there is a certain percentage that would go a-muk. In Toronto several years ago, the police went on strike one day. That is all it took as crime skyrocketed...several fires, looting, robberies, etc.

The veil of civilization is surprisingly thin - someone once said. That is very poor morality indeed.

Instead of acting morally...be moral...then you would act the same regardless.

Of course we would behave morally. Everyone sins because they are sinners, we aren't sinners because we sin. Even thought we were born sinners we still manage to do the "right" thing most of the time. Atheist people don't go around acting immorally and they "KNOW" there is no God.

I do behave morally, for the most part, and the existence or non-existence of god has nothing to do with this.

Acid: lol, so true. There are a lot of kneejerkians here today.

Take it a step further: would you take as an opportunity to disrespect your parents, worship some dog doody, kill a few people who have annoyed you over the years, rape your neighbours wife, go steal some major home appliances from a shop window, sleep with a few prostitutes, and then blame someone else when God comes back on duty?

Yeah. why not? behaving morally is supposed to be part of human nature. Even if God does not exist, morals will. Morals are a thing of human nature..........and religion just reinforces them.

God does not exist and I do behave morally. And so do most of my friends

God is God; he is not a man. He has no beginning nor has he an end. He will not take a day off or disappear all of a sudden. We have confidence in him because we know he is there for us always.

Yes, I did those things before I knew God existed.

I also was kind to those in pain, and took care of animals.

Some people have a natural desire to be kind to others, even some of those who are not religious.

Fortunately, God added to my life greatly when He manifested Himself to me. My life is even better now than before.
