why do people treat the bible as if it is pure fact? that everything in it is 100% correct. if you lived by the bible almost everything we do now is a sin. so why can some people not realize it's out-dated? why is it that people disown their children because the bible says homosexuality is wrong yet the bible also says pre-marital sex is wrong and you don't see people flipping out about that or other things that the bible says are a sin? not to mention the majority of overly religious people are rude, narrowminded and judgmental. they look down on anyone who does not believe what they do. do you think God would want you doing that? (i realize not all religious people are like that) i would like to get a variety of opinions on this please.

for something to be a fact it has to be able to be proven. can you prove that you will go to hell if you sin? no you can't therefore it can not be fact.

People that literally interpret the bible are the same crowd that looks to their religion to provide simple answers to life's complex questions. Hey, if your religion tells you how and what to think, how much easier is your life?

The fact is that the bible is a 2000 to 5000 year old compilation of materials that attempts to provide a framework and structure to life for people who lived at a time when there was no rational science to explain the mysteries of life. Furthermore, in that 2000 to 5000 years, the bible has been copied, translated, and re-translated so many times that the original context has been mutated to something totally unrecognizable from the original. Furthermore....... institutions such as the Catholic church have selectively removed parts of the bible that they've deemed threatening to their dogma and power-base. And even more....... groups such as the religions right use the bible as a weapon to attack those who oppose their narrow-minded views of how people should lead their lives. Read closely enough, and subject to interpretation, the bible can say anything you want it to say.

I circle back to my original assertation - many people are simple-minded creatures that can't think for themselves and needs something and/or someone to tell them how to lead their lives.

Very often the human person has the wrong perception of who God is and thus behave in such a way as to not reflect the light of Christ within them. The Bible is a story of Gods relationship to man in it salvation history and it is for all times
The problem lies with the misinterpretation of sacred scripture and the story as a whole. It is for this reason an authentic and authoritative interpreter is needed and can only be found in one place
By virtue of this divinely-appointed authority, the Catholic Church determined the canon of Scripture (what books belong in the Bible) at the end of the fourth century. We therefore believe in the Scriptures on the authority of the Catholic Church. After all, nothing in Scripture tells us what Scriptures are inspired, what books belong in the Bible, or that Scripture is the final authority on questions concerning the Christian faith. Instead, the Bible says that the Church, not the Scriptures, is the pinnacle and foundation of the truth (1 Tim. 3:15) and the final arbiter on questions of the Christian faith (Matt. 18:17). It is through the teaching authority and Apostolic Tradition (2 Thess. 2:15; 3:6; 1 Cor. 11:2) of this Church, who is guided by the Holy Spirit (John 14:16,26; 16:13), that we know of the divine inspiration of the Scriptures, and the manifold wisdom of God. (cf. Ephesians 3:10).

I totally agree with you, those people are a bunch of hypocrites! I believe the people who are really religious choose to be ignorant and close-minded. There had been a number of times that I got beef for being gay, but I just ignore them because they have no right to pass judgmental. Doesn't the Bible say that God can only do that and what are they doing?

I'm not really religious and my religion is Buddhism. It's all about love and compassion. I'm pretty sure that God would not want them to behave in such a despicable manner. I have met some cool people who are religious but they have an open-mind and they are very kind. Some are just assholes, but others are good.

The bible is a incomplete history book. It's suppose to be a guide line to live by & what not to do... I believe there are several mis translations. A priest (ex-friend) and I argue all the time.( well we use to) He is very closed minded. I try to tell him that just because he reads something in the bible and gets meaning out of it. That does not mean I will get the same meaning.. He doesn't like that... He got mad at me because a girl I like is a witch..He hasn't talked to me since.... He's not a very good christian...

The bible is true and I dont judge people. I try to live by gods words every day. I dont look down on people because they dont believe the way I do, thats wrong. God would want me to love everyone no matter what their beliefs or how they live. I love my lord and would do anything for him. Its your choice if you want to go to hell. I am not going to hell for anyone else or their beliefs. God just wants us to live for and by him and love all.

I don't think that a majority of Religious people are "rude, narrow minded and judgmental. they look down on anyone who does not believe what they do"

I honestly do not believe that, it is a sterotype that gets pinned on us by others, sure there are some, all Christians are not perfect, (None of us are), but to say a majority are is out of line in my opinion. Please remember that for every one Christian that you see that is that way, there are hundreds that are quietly living life, doing the right things and accepting of others.

Good Luck!

The Bible is a TRUE FACT. Its not out dated. its the worlds road map to heaven. and not everything we do these days are sins. we are all human beings and we have all made mistakes. i totally believe everything in the Bible. look at it this way, i think it would be better to believe everything in the Bible, than not to believe everything and go to Hell one day, in other words. i rather be safe than sorry. Homosexuailty is a SIN. and People will go to Hell for it, if they dont repent and change their lives.

This is nothing new, kid.

It just comes down to how involved the person is in modern day culture. I mean, some Christians DO flip out about premarital sex, women wearing pants, etc.

When a person judges all by one they put themselves in a box and limit their understanding of so many things, it is sad.

Time will never out date God or His word.
