This myth begins at the very creation of man. Lilith, according to Hebrew/ Jewish texts, was the first woman created for Adam.

Many have made her a model for feminism, because when Adam demanded that she always be on the bottom for... um... sleeping purposes, she grew angry. "Why must I always be on the bottom? I was made of the same stuff as you. I should be on the top equally." When Adam would not relent in his domination of her, she grew so angry that she uttered the holy name of God and vanished. God then had to make Eve for Adam, making her of his rib bone, rather than wholly dust, so that she would be attached to him and not leave as Lilith had done.

Lilith went out to the Red Sea, where she made a bargain with the angels who had been sent to fetch her back to Adam. She was allowed to stay out on her own, as a witch, mother of all demons. She killed infants up until their naming day (I believe 7 days for girls and 8 days for boys - but could be wrong), unless they had a charm over their sleeping place with the names of the angels on them. Then, she promised, she would not kill them. (This story is usually explained as being an explanation for SIDS-- sudden infant death syndrome.) Lilith killed human children in retaliation for the thousands of her own demon children who were killed in the wars between good and evil.

So - Adam is alone, and God makes Eve from his rib. (male and female He [God] created them [the first human]) Some of the rabbis found in this image a dual bodied being later divided into two who must thereafter seek each other out.

Others tried to take into account the later creation of Eve detailed further on in the text. If woman was created from Adam, after his initial creation, than what happened to the female created at first? The answer, according to the Midrash, was that she was Lilith. Some believe that after the expulsion from the garden, Adam was unhappy with Eve and blamed her and so returned to Lilith for a time. I do not know the basis of this belief. Some vampire mythology also believes that Lilith was who Cain found upon wandering into nod (east).

Your question is odd. I wouldn't ask for a quote, but I would ask that you clearly review those chapters you speak of because you are mistaking the whole thing.

Chapter 2 is a more indept story of Chapter 1.

Chapter 1 is a summery of the creation of all, like the preamble (or summery) of novels. Chapter 2 goes into depth.

So they are the same story. Now, I say that to say that Adam and Eve are equals because they were meant for each other and they are children of God. Eve was created to be Adam's helper. In other words, Adam was created to care for the garden of Eden. He needed a helper. Eve was created to help him.

These are not two stories. In the beginning before they sinned God said they were equal. After they sinned, they were still equal as human beings but God put them in different roles as relating to one another. Before they sinned, obviously Adam was not taking his husbandly role seriously otherwise he would have told his wife NO! when she offerered him the Fruit. Instead he accepted the Fruit. Once Adam accepted the Fruit and ate of it, that's when God came on the scene again. Eve ate the fruit and nothing happened, but when Adam ate it, that's when God found them. Adam should have been in headship over his wife, instead he put his wife before God's word and commandment. Therefore their relationship had to change. This is why it's so important for Husbands to know their role as husbands and wives to know their role as wives. There can only be one Head in the household. Two heads on anything becomes and is a Monster.

There are not two different creation accounts, there is only one. Why so many Bible "scholars" cannot figure this out is beyond me. If one takes the time to read the entire Pentateuch (the first five books of the Bible), one will quite quickly notice that Moses has a writing style in which he likes to provide an overview of what he will be talking about, and then goes back over the account a second time but fleshes out the details during that second time. The first and second creation accounts are the same account. The "first" account is the overview that Moses wrote because that was his writing style, the "second" account (which is the same account) was him going back over the account to flesh out the details. They are not two different accounts. There is no different order, there is no different message; and the only reason there is a difference in structure is because Moses wrote the first as a summary and the second to fill in the details.

Your comment is not true. The Bible (Genesis) says that Eve was created as a help mate for Adam. There is nothing - anywhere in the bible that says anything about one being subserivant to the other.

The first tells of the account in brief terms and the second goes into more detail. Both describe the same event. Not unlike the fact that the life and crucifixion of Jesus is described 4 times in 4 books in the new testament.

Can you please give some references? And if Eve is suppose to serve her husband in a certain matter, and Adam is supposed to serve his wife in a certain way. Does that make one higher than the other? Both are made in God's image and are designed to serve a unique purpose in the household.

There really aren't, there is the creation and then a more detailed account.

There is also the legend of Lilith, who supposedly was the first woman created in what you call the first story of creation. You could do a search for Lilith n the Bible, you will find her mentioned, and on-line for a good description of who she is.

They were each based on different previous creation myths. You can trace most stories in the Bible to earlier Babylonian, Mesopotamian, and Egyptian myths.
