In the Bible, it says that true Christians can safely drink poison, speak foreign languages without studying them, and heal the sick. Why don't I ever see people doing these things?

Mk.16:17-18 "And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover."

Lk.10:19 "Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you."

Depends on how flexible your definition of "miracle" is. If it's flexible enough, you can see "miracles" in just about anything.

Because God used miracles to show the truth of Christianity.

Today we have the complete canon of scripture, which has everything we need

By the way Charity (love) is the greatest gift
1Cor13:8
8Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. 9For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. 10But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away

Prophecy, tongues and knowledge would cease when that which is perfect came (the bible).

The church was built on the foundation of the apostles, and God used those gifts foundational to help start the early church.

Just as there are no more apostles, there are no more sign gifts, despite what guys like Benny Hinn say.
That's why Hinn can't really heal anyone.

Paul at the end of his ministry couldn't heal anymore, and the healing back then were all visible.
Blind people seeing, cripples walking, deaf hearing, etc.

Today God speaks through His Word.

Yes, if they have opened themselves up to God then He will use them to heal others, to counsel, to minister, etc. The miracles concerned may be a one-off, but we are charged to spread the gospel beyond the geographical area that Jesus covered and when miracles are required and within God's will then we should be available to be the vessel or means of ministering in whatever way is required. I have used several gifts over the years because I am willing to be of service. If more believers were like this then the church in the UK and elsewhere would be much greater and stronger that it is today.

I know of christians that can. Trust me, in order to do this you have to be very very very loyal to god and really give your life to him completely. The thing is that there are so many false "christian" religions today that think that they are holy and all, but in Gods eyes they are worthless and need to really repent their sins and stop teaching people all the wrong things that do not follow the bible. Today there are very, and I mean very little true christians out there. Others just use the name and they dont serve the lord like they are supposed to. I reccomend you to read the entire bible and you will see all the things people do wrong which they think are okay. And for your information, get an older version of the bible that doesnt have any changes made by the people today. I really wish you good luck and please do read the bible.

I safely ate my wife's cooking for 17 years. Does that qualify for safely drinking poison?

Just Kidding!

The other two things have been manifest in my life, by the power of the Holy Spirit, since I was a teenager.

I didn't earn them or deserve them, but Jesus gave them to me anyway.

All the Praise and Honor goes to Jesus, not me.

Pastor Art

PS: About five years after I became a Pastor, I appeared on TV-38, the Christian TV station in Chicago, and a lady called into the program who identified herself as my 2nd grade Sunday School teacher in my old Lutheran Church. She told me that I had asked her the following question on the day when the Sunday School class was studying the Day of Pentecost, probably on Pentecost Sunday. The question I had asked her was this: "Why don't people still speak in tongues today?"

I don't remember asking that question, but that is what she told me I had asked.

the main thing i think is a lack of faith you need to believe that someone will be healed or that a miracle will happen if you do not they will not as my mum always says from the bible say things as they will be in other words if you believe a miracle will happen it will merely being a christian is not enough because if you doubt nothing will happen. i hear people speak in "new tongues" every week at my church and know many people who have been healed. as for the othwe things people dont generaly play with snakes and poison that much lol XD

I think that they do happen. There are testimonies which are told amongst Christians ad infinitum, but those who aren't around to hear about them are exposed to those testimonies. And those who are not inclined to believe them tend to disregard the story from the outset.

Now if I was Joe Schmoe, and I told you that I couldn't breathe out of one side of my nose for years until I was healed so that I could not only breathe through both sides, but my sense of smell seemed agumented, would you believe me? And If I never published a book that was well known about all the things in my life that might be considered 'unusual' and had a spiritual nature to them, how would you know about it? And then you would have to believe it in order to think that it was newsworthy to you.

So the testimonies are out there, I just gave you a few about myself, and will you believe them? My name is not Joe Schmoe, but those things happened to me. Are you going to discount it?

By the way, the verse from Luke 10:19 wasn't talking about literal serpents and scorpions. It was about the enemy we Christians have who are spiritual. Jesus took back the power that Satan had when Adam fell. Satan had it for all those years and Jesus was telling us that Satan no longer had it over those who trust in him.

I honestly don't know if these verses are literal or figurative but if there are people who can perform these things the chances are that we will rarely hear about them, when Jesus healed or cast out demons he told the people whom he performed the miracles on not to shout out about it, so I think that there are healers but the real ones aren't on T.V. healing people for money they are going about it in everyday fashion as to not be seen or known of.

Becuase the bible is a work of fiction. The similarities between the stories and characters in the Bible and those from previous mythologies are undeniable and well-recorded. It is only due to the extreme religious bias that pervades our world today that people rarely get exposed to this information about other "Saviors" of the same era.
