Now, this is going to be a philosophical debate for the most part and is not going to be easily supported by fact. In other words, it's a very opinion based thing and everyone's views are valid, since neither can disprove the other, so keep it civil and no belittling other's opinions (I wouldn't usually say this, but this is a particularly prone topic to this kind of thing).

Say you had a vision in which another god besides Yahweh or Jesus talked to you, like Amun-Ra, Allah, Ganesha, etc. Would you change to that religion?

I think its suffiecient to make someone change, I mean why would you continue worshipping a god you havent even seen and dont know if they're really there?

I just finished college. Now I can read whatever I want, and not what they make me read! Yippee. I have tons of books I want to read, religious studies lectures I want to listen to, etc.

Where do I begin?

When you have so much to do, how do you decide where to begin? I'm so excited about all the different things, that I can't seem to focus my mind on any one of them!

Most of the Constitutional framers were Deists (pronounced day-ist) influenced by the writings of Thomas Paine. Deists believe that God exists in Nature, that Jesus was not the Son of God, and that the Bible is the work of Man and not God.

If Judas did not do what he did then Jesus would not have died on the cross for the redemption of mankind.
Just think how different Christianity would be now if Jesus died for your sins in his sleep of heart failure at the ripe old age of 76... not very meaningful is it?

Shouldn't the proof of God's existence be found before the disproof of the disproof.

I'll rephrase, shouldn't the burden of proof fall on the people making the claim that something exists in the first place?

Why do people believe in things like a God for example? Humans, like 99% of the species who have lived on earth, will eventually become extinct. There are many things that will kill us off that will only take a matter of time to occur, such as a supervolcanic eruption, an asteroid, a gamma ray burst, a black hole, global warming or nuclear warfare. And if somehow we dodge all of these things, we'll die when the sun explodes. Its the way nature is - species come an go. Yet, we think we're some sort of an exception b/c the bible "says so." What if we ARENT here for a reason, and we're just here b/c the earth's climate has been mild long enough to allow us to evolve into intelligence? is this so hard for people to fathom? Then i get the argument that, "someone had to create the universe." We'll, using that logic, then someone had to create that someone, right? People say, no, God was just always there. well, then who's to say the universe wasnt always there?

Deuteronomy 18:9 When thou art come into the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations.
18:10 There shall not be found among you [any one] that
maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, [or]
that useth divination, [or] an observer of times, or an
enchanter, or a witch,
18:11 Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or
a wizard, or a necromancer.
18:12 For all that do these things [are] an abomination unto
the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God
doth drive them out from before thee.
18:13 Thou shalt be perfect with the LORD thy God.
18:14 For these nations, which thou shalt possess, hearkened
unto observers of times, and unto diviners: but as for thee,
the LORD thy God hath not suffered thee so [to do].

Since the Bible was written by Man, is it therefore not possible that it is fallible?
Could it have been misinterpreted as the word of God when it came to be written down?

Discuss, but with manners please!

And I'm one. I believe in God, or a Divine Power (I'm a Deist) but I reject the bible as a true book. But still so many Christians seem to be obsessed with biblical quotes. I mean, why don't Christians understand that I do NOT care what the bible said about this or that matter? Giving me quotes won't change anything, nor will it make the answer look more credible to me.

I prefer answers that use logic, and not copy-paste answers. And as a homosexual person, I visit the LGBT section often, and the funny thing is the preaching that goes on there. Talking about how sinful we're, and the bible says this and that. So the question is:
Why won't Christians stop preaching others who do not share the same convections with them? Do you really think you'll convert someone through this forum? I know I don't want that for myself!

I know plenty of Christians, myself included, who believe that the Theory of Evolution is a valid explanation of the origins of more advanced species. Einstein's Theories of Special and General relativity explain gravity. These are also theories. A theory is, by definition, the best scientific explanation for a certain phenomenon based on the available data. There is fossil evidence of hominids - with both man-like and ape-like characterstics:
http://www.talkorigins.org/faqs/homs/

Additionally, while I do not believe in the Creation story as portrayed in Genesis, I do believe that God incited the Big Bang to create the universe, as there are no hypotheses or theories as to what caused the Big Bang.

You can believe in God, be Christian, and believe in Evolution - so why do so many Christians refuse to believe tangible, real evidence and facs in favor of a religious story with no scientific basis?

So, for or against the Theory of Evolution, what are your thoughts?

Isn't the vast number of differing religions and beliefs proof enough that there isn't just 'one god' but many... or is that there are many creators of 'god' - individuals, groups, tribes and the like - with each inventing its own idea of a suitable 'god' ?

Hello, all:

This afternoon I found a stray cat on the steps of our apartment building, and by using his ear tattoo I was able to track his history a bit. It seems that his registered owner has vanished off the face of the Earth and that he was abandoned about two weeks ago -- at least that's how long he's been sneaking into our building and running to the third floor, presumably looking for his AWOL owner. :-(

We can't keep him ourselves, so I cabbed him over to our city's Humane Society. His name is Kelso, and here is a picture:

Whatever your religion or lack thereof, could you spare some prayers/magic/good wishes for him? He seems like a really sweet boy who just caught a bad break. Let's see if we can help him dodge the euthanasia bullet and get adopted ASAP.

Thank you for your help.

Christians accept everything Scientists say as fact except when it comes to the theroy of evolution. Why? They all use drugs and get paternity tests and use bug spray yet can't imagine that life evolved on Earth.

Fundamentalists are pretty extreme on literalism,as compared to the major denominations. They recoil at any suggestion of reediting the Bible. And yet the version they read doesn't have seven books that were a part of it for 1500 years - three-fourths of the Christian era - and it doesn't seem to bother them at all. Why not? Just because the Church of England excluded them while the Catholic Church kept them? Fundamentalists are not Anglican (Episcopalian over here),so why should they care what theChurch of England did,or what the Catholics didn't do? We have it in it's original form, you'd think as literalist as fundamentalists are they would be outraged to learn the King Jimmy is missing seven books. So why not? And what do they think?

How do you think my life would change if I converted to your faith? This is a question for anyone of any religious persuasion.

By the way, I'm not searching for faith, I just want to know what differences you feel following your religion would have on the life of an unbeliever -- namely, me?
