Why do people believe in things like a God for example? Humans, like 99% of the species who have lived on earth, will eventually become extinct. There are many things that will kill us off that will only take a matter of time to occur, such as a supervolcanic eruption, an asteroid, a gamma ray burst, a black hole, global warming or nuclear warfare. And if somehow we dodge all of these things, we'll die when the sun explodes. Its the way nature is - species come an go. Yet, we think we're some sort of an exception b/c the bible "says so." What if we ARENT here for a reason, and we're just here b/c the earth's climate has been mild long enough to allow us to evolve into intelligence? is this so hard for people to fathom? Then i get the argument that, "someone had to create the universe." We'll, using that logic, then someone had to create that someone, right? People say, no, God was just always there. well, then who's to say the universe wasnt always there?

guys, guys, settle down. I am from a christian family. my whole family believes in God. Its not that i "dont have a life" - it is that i'm not simple a sheep, and go along with what my parents have told me. Not enough people pause and think about our place in the universe - its a facinating topic.

What i am asking is, if people use the logic of, "somebody had to create the universe." then how do we explain this "somebody" being there. Is that "somebody" just always there? i see some of u saying, God is the only explanation for all of this, but is it possibly that there is something else - another possibility - that is just to complex for the human mind to fathom?

May God give you understanding,

Let me ask you something: What makes evolutionist and people who do not believe in a higher being think that they are superior in knowledge than any other being that exist? What if there is someone or something that is vastly more superior in wisdom and knowledge than mankind. After all, with all the complexities of the universe ( how all the planets, ie. Earth is the perfect distance away from the sun in order to sustain life ) down to the smallest organism with all its complex but perfectly oranized parts that allow it to exist and function; how can you be 100% sure that someone or something had nothing to do with it. Science can explain how things function and sometimes how they came about, but science cannot explain the purpose behind it all. I mean, people criticize Christians and others who believe in God and they make them out to be naive, ignorant folks. But I happen to believe that its very ignorant to think of oneself as all-knowing; that we got it down on how things were, are ,and are going to turn out. The same way that we don't know if there is life on another planet with far more intelligence than us, how can we be sure that there isn't a greater being who some call God ? What's the answer--that God does not exist because we can't see Him? We haven't seen everything, there's still much more to discover. That's why we have scientist; but I find it funny because the more scientist discover, the more we realize the complexity of existance but how perfect it is at the same time--and that to me just points even more to a higher being which I worship and call God. I hope you come to a conclusion that mankind knows alot but not everything and if you're going to put your faith in something, put your faith in God and not on a meaningless life that only relies on chances; its more secure and you have nothing to lose because if God does exist, then his promises are true, and those who love Him will spend eternity with Him; and if he doesn't exist then we just become extinct. But if he does exist and you willfully rejected Him, i feel bad for you and others who never believed because they're end is not a good one.

But i'll pray that you'll recieve understanding and turn to God

May God Bless You!

OK. Let's say that all christians are wrong and we're just making the whole thing up because nobody wants to believe us. Are you willing to bet your soul that there isn't a God? All God wants you to do is Believe. Why is that so hard? People believe in War, Money, Revenge, etc. Does those things bring happiness or more trouble? Believing in God isn't going to hurt you. It isn't going to make you less human or more of a Man or Woman to admit that regardless of the so-called proof you may have, there is a Creator of all things and it wasn't Science. Someone asked me to use "Critical Thinking" once, so with that in mind I will leave you with something to think about.

Where did the Soul come from? Where did Love come from? Where did Emotions come from? Did they come from the Big Bang, or Science, or Research? People say they want Proof of God's existence, and they say that there isn't any Proof because they've never "seen" any Proof. That maybe true, but they have definitely "Felt" him, wether they want to admit it or not, and that's a Fact. Just like the air, you can't see it, but you know it's there because you can feel it. Same with your Soul. You can't see it either, but you know it's there.

Peace be with you my friend.

You have to see the beauty in fish. I'm not joking. Maybe you're not looking hard enough but there is beauty in every living thing. It is amazing that there is life and how it works.

Whether you think that God made it or that it came from the energy that always was and will be it is still amazing and beautiful.

Look at some pictures taken by a Scanning Electron Microscope. It is amazing!

Maybe the universe was laways there, but God was laso and he still is. Things that will kill us off is why scientists r working their asses off...duh. Peopel naturally need something to believe in to explain things. We have to be here for a reason. We can't just have been placed here. Anyway things like poverty, war, and things like that are why Jesus is going to come again. I personally want war poverty and the other of the 4 knites to come(read the bible for details on the knites)

i agree with everything you are saying. we evolved form single cell organisms. the world will blow up, we are just in this universe. not to serve a purpose for the greater good; perhaps only to bring life to this earth while human kind is still around. although i do not beleive in a god of any sort, i will say poeple beleive what they want to beleive. for some god helps them find beauty in what is ugly, good in themselves, and a feeling of signifigance. if that leads them to be a better person, i am all for it. if someone trys to enforce thier beleifs on others however simply becuase thats all they know, i find them hard to respect. we are all people, and some of us see diferently from others. with that said, i will say that i find science interesting (and true!) but that theology is much more interesting in that people have so many beleifs. and again, a book is a few peices of paper, however "magical" or "holy." i don't se why so many of us put so much faith into somethign written by men. so maybe i'll run into you in heaven... oh wait.. maybe not.

You have been here less then a 100 years and you think you have proved over 6000 years worth of various religions and maybe even longer means nothing, there have been a lot of people smarter than you. You should look into what Einstein believed and realize that there are smarter people then you who believe in God. It's not foolish Bologna that only superstitious people believe.

The Sun imploding in a spectacular supernova has absolutely nothing to do with whether God is real or not. That's going to happen in FIVE BILLION YEARS! It's been 7,000 since we decided to stop being hunter-gatherers, and we've already been to the moon. In that FIVE BILLION YEARS, I think maybe we'll have technology enough to go elsewhere?

But I do agree with you: We WILL probably kill ourselves in nuclear war or with man-aggravated global warming before we can leave the earth for another planet.

I admit that years ago I wondered myself, but in this world today there is not much a person can put their faith or trust in. The Bible is God's Word, it is for us to belive in, and it teaches us to put our faith and trust in Him (God). To take that away we wouldn't have nothing, we wouldn't have no understanding, granted we don't understand alot of the hows or when or the whys, if it was for us understand everything then we wouldn't need God..I have to believe in God because nothing else really makes to much sense to me..Things happen I have no understanding for it but with out the faith and trust in God I would be lost...I know it is hard to understand but it has to be that way for now till providing it is in God's Will to share with us all. It may be something we will never know or ever need to know..Blessings
