If one converts from say Islam to Christianity, or vice-versa, it is supposed to be straight forward, you pledge your faith in a different God / Prophet. But how about inter-sect conversion ? So if a Sunni wants to become Shia or Shia wants to become Sunni; OR follower of a sect of Christianity wants to convert to another sect, what kind of change will be needed as actually there will not be a change at the faith level.

A corollary to this question, if the God / Prophet remains same, and, these religion take pride in unity of God / Prophet / True message, how come they have different sects ?

im a christian mostly for social purposes but the idea that earth is only 6000 years old i cant believe. where did the dinosaur bones come from then. this makes me question christianity. and all that carbon dating of skulls and stuff.

So there were two mormons who visited my house today, and I was kind enuff to answer teh door for them. At the end of our lengthy conversation, they gave me this mormon bible, and i do not know whether i should even open it for information. What should i do?

I didnt want to sound rude by driving them away, but at the same time, i just want to yell "I'M CATHOLIC AND I'M NOT INTERESTED IN CONVERTING!!"

Please don't say because you could get sued! There are millions of examples, such as the Eskimo commercial, with the Eskimo with a klondike ice cream bar sitting on ice, banned! Red Skins logo, banned! Prayer in school, banned! There seems to be no common sense anymore!! Things that seem harmless are banned, while other things like the will and grace show, gay rights etc. etc. are shoved on us everyday. Is this what it means in the Bible when it says , in the end of times, what was right will become wrong, and what was wrong will become right?

This site is for religion and spirituality. If atheists are not religious nor spiritual. Why are you guys hanging around here? There is a mythology and folklore section you can hang out at to express your opinion on myths and such. Are you all in denial that you must continue to question religion?

Please,I'm serious. For example,when I was a kid I loved church picnics. I even loved vacation Bible school. Later on when I was in high school I went through kind of an agnostic phase but I was still capable of enjoying fond memories of my Christian childhood. Now in my case I returned - not to organized religion,just within my heart - but even if I hadn't I would still have some very nice memories of a Christian childhood. Do any of you really committed atheists ever feel that way? Or were all your experiences with religion negative?

Joseph Smith, the prophet od Mormonism' claimed that God and Jesus visited him in a grove where they told him all religions are false and that he should start a new church. Thereafter they gave him the Book of Mormon via golden plates for printing, afterwhich he returned the plates.

Muhammad claimed that an angel visted him everyday for over twenty years, piecemealing the Quran to him verse by verse. Oh yea, and for some reason, God wanted to give this literature to an illiterate pedophlic slave owning warlord.

Of course, both accounts are fiction, but as stupid as Joseph Smiths claim was, it beats the heck out of Muhammads.

Since Israeli people are supposed to hate Arabic culture and all...I would like them to explain why they named Shawarma, Falafel and Humus as their national food? Arabic food is great and enjoyed by many, it's ironic that israel oppresses Palestinians and copies their food at the same time...

Dont tell me to read the Bible in Context, Try to understand the Scripture etc.

Who was Joseph's father?
Mt 1:16 Jacob was the father of Joseph the husband of Mary, by whom Jesus was born, who is called the Messiah.
Luke 3:23 When He [Jesus] began His ministry, Jesus Himself was about thirty years of age, being, as was supposed, the son of Joseph, the son of Eli.

How did Judas die?
Mt.27:5 And he [Judas] threw the pieces of silver into the temple sanctuary and departed; and he went away and hanged himself.
Acts 1:18 (Now this man [Judas] acquired a field with the price of his wickedness, and falling headlong, he burst open in the middle and all his intestines gushed out.

Now, there are hundres of Contradictions such as the above in the Bible. A Logical and Sensible Question for you to think. If you were given a Text Book on Physics, Chemistry etc in School and you find out there are contradictions there, will you accept?
Why then, are you accepting the Bible?

I am a born again Christian myself, but I am a little confused. God wants us to be happy, but will he only give us what we need, and not what we want? Even if I worked hard for it, but I don't need it, but I pray everyday and ask in faith, will he give it to me, even if it is not a necessity? I know you will say it depends on what it is, so I am talking about meeting someone. This someone I am talking about is an anime (cartoon) character on tv. I truly love him.
