I don't understand your meaning. God is among us. You could show him a group of believers and tell him that they all have God in their hearts... Jim

I am not sure if God likes a lot of dead people around. He likes what He created and doesn't know about anything He did not make. Maybe tell your son that his job in life is to make himself ready on the inside so he will be able to meet God in the hereafter, whenever the moment comes.

Why do you assume only dead people can meet God? It most certainly is possible to meet God and even converse with Him. What the boy wants, he may well be able to get, but the discipline would be hard for him :(.
I don't know what faith you are, but there are a myriad of techniques for helping a person to meet God. A couple of Good books on this subject are "The Way of the Pilgrim" and "The Orthodox Way." They both contain very basic instructions on the Orthodox Christian technique of hesychasm. "The Way of the Pilgrim" is more focused on prayer and meeting God, but the Orthodox Way contains information on it also.

Actually dead people won't meet God.
The Psalms says that "the dead do not praise the Lord".
The Bible refers to death as a deep sleep. After all, if all the dead Christians are in heaven now, why would "the dead in Christ rise first" when Jesus returns?
You can explain to him that he can talk to God now, but he won't get to meet him until He returns to earth the second time. This is when Christians will be resurrected and the Christians alive on earth will be called up (raptured, as some like to call it) and judgment will take place.
I don't know how much you're going to want to tell him now, because he might be really young...

That is not true, you can know The Lord Jesus Christ by inviting him into your heart, please don't tell your son that he must die to meet God, that is the worst thing you could do, he may start getting ideas on his own.
When your son is old enough to truly understand and maybe some introduction before, on who God is, you simply explain, What our Father has done for us by sending Jesus, and that he may talk to The Lord at any time in prayer, because The Lord will always be listening, you may sit down, and teach him how to pray also.

You son is answering the call of God- He seeks us out before we seek Him- and yes both of you can meet God before you die. That is why He sent His Son Jesus into the world, so that we can be saved - and live eternally with Him. You can see God in His creation as well, and you can open the eyes of your heart and see Him this very moment if you chose, Your son is seeking help him find God, and in the process I pray you will find Him too,

A walk in nature is indeed the best way to meet God. Or a visit to the church of your choice. You have to teach him that God is not a human, he/she is a spirit, an entity. Telling him that only dead people get to meet god is horrible.

You could try taking him to church and letting him learn about God and Jesus. Prayer is the way that we "meet" God in this lifetime, so that would be a good starting point.
You don't have to be dead to meet God. . .if that was the case, then nobody would ever find salvation while they're on this earth.

How about this:
The glory, the power of God is so powerful that no one can take being in front of it or they will die...its like trying to touch the sun. We will all get to see the Lord in heaven after we die because we will have new bodies that wont die. Our new bodies are made for heaven and our old bodies are to live here on earth. Right now, know that God can see everything you do, even in the dark and that God loves you and hears your prayers to Him.

He can meet God through his Word, which is living and active. Go through the book of John with him.

You can lead your son into a relationship with God, but you must first expose him to his need for God. The Law of God works well for this. Give him the Gospel next, and he will have met God in the here and now by faith. Get him baptized after that right away.
