god says so through the bible...

It's true because God says so - he just happens to say so in the BIBLE. Does anybody see any problem with the reasoning here?

If I wrote a book in crayon, and then on the last page said -

"I'm all-powerful, and this book is true because I said so", would that confirm its accuracy?

Isn't it circular reasoning?

It is the Word of God passed on to us. If you are looking for facts behind people and places of the Bible check out books on Biblical Archeology.

comment on some of these other answers: if God says the Bible is true, wouldn't he say it in the Bible? (Bible=God's word...)

*i* think the Bible is true because i've seen it work in my own life.

*edit* Lunarsight - yes, i understand your point. that is what i was trying to say.

hmm, maybe so. But it could be true because of the millions and even billions of people who believe it, because they study it and find it to be true.

Have you actually STUDIED the Bible? How much time have you given it? I'll bet you have given more time to reading stories like Peter Pan then you have the Bible?

The Bible is true because its provable.
Isaiah 40:22 said the earth is round ...800 years BEFORE Jesus.
Job 26:7 said the earth hangs on nothing ....1500 years BEFORE Jesus.
Those 2 issues were hotly debated for centuries.
Who proved true?

There are over 50 versions of bible in English alone.

At best, only 1 is right.

That means at least 49 are wrong.

That means almost 98% are wrong.

Is Superman true because I have video evidence of him?

God has never claimed that the Bible was true. I defy anyone to prove me wrong - but you can't use the Bible.

regardless of your beliefs there is a great amount of knowledge in there but you need common sense to understand it. So truth is not a good word to use because 5 people can read the same thing and come up with 5 different stories.

the bible was put together by men. is everythign you say true, is everythign bush says true (cough cough) is everything your community says true? soem people lie intentionally, some pople lie because in that situation it is wise, some people tell untruths without realizing it. it is my beleif we are giving this bible too much credit. we can not live our lives based soley on a book, no matter how many goods morals it has with good values. get creative. learn. listen. those things can guide you in life too.

look @ the indestructibility of the bible. because of its importance and its claim to be the very word of God, the bible has suffered more vicious attacks and attempts to destroy it than any other book in history. from early roman emperors like diocletian, through communist dictators and on to modern day atheists and agnostics, the bible has withstood and outlasted all of its attackers and is still the most widely published book in the world today.
