And I'm one. I believe in God, or a Divine Power (I'm a Deist) but I reject the bible as a true book. But still so many Christians seem to be obsessed with biblical quotes. I mean, why don't Christians understand that I do NOT care what the bible said about this or that matter? Giving me quotes won't change anything, nor will it make the answer look more credible to me.

I prefer answers that use logic, and not copy-paste answers. And as a homosexual person, I visit the LGBT section often, and the funny thing is the preaching that goes on there. Talking about how sinful we're, and the bible says this and that. So the question is:
Why won't Christians stop preaching others who do not share the same convections with them? Do you really think you'll convert someone through this forum? I know I don't want that for myself!

I agree with the above post.. Religiolus people just think what they are told.

Christians try to leave by the teachings of Jesus...

In answer to your question, most of Christianity is based on faith and the Bible, so that is why they use the Bible.

I am not trying to "convert" anyone. If they see an difference in my life that makes them want to be like me, then great, if not then I can not make anyone do anything. I believe in living and let live. If you ask me about Jesus I will GLADLY tell you, if you don't then I will just be happy with what I know.

Answering with biblical quotes is called proof-texting. This is a Protestant thing. You should be able to answer questions without the sole use of the Bible. Using the Bible alone (sola scriptura) is a self-contradictory method. I'm not saying don't use the Bible, I'm saying you should be able to accompany it with reason. It would be really nice to convert someone through this forum, but only God can truly change their hearts. Read The Pentateuch. I believe there's something in there about who you can and cannot marry. I think there's something about not being allowed to marry people of the same gender.

If they're answering questions, someone must be asking them. The Bible is used because it is the basis of Belief. A Christian's opinion is not only worthless in regards to salvation, it could vary from one person to another. If you truly believe in something, there is a basis for your belief. A Christians is the Bible. As far as your question goes, the LGBT section is just that. I doubt Christians visit the Homo/Lesbo section the same way.

The only time I quote the bible (as far as I can remember) is to clarify my position (why I believe what I believe) or to show someone who thinks they've found a contradiction in the bible that they're wrong.

Then again, why is it that just about question involving God (or the bible, etc.) has to have an atheist who answers "There is no god" or "The bible's full of fairy tales"? Isn't that just as inane?

Using the most appropriate source for supporting one's argument is a basic element of scholarship.

If you ask me a question about my faith and I think the best answer is based on a particular Scripture, then that's the reference I'm going to use. The Bible is the basis for my belief in Christ, which usually makes it the best source material for supporting my argument.

You as the reader have no control over what I choose to use as a reference. That's my decision based on what I feel is the most appropriate reference to validate the point that I'm trying to make.

Some of these people may have only ever received answeres to their similar questions in the same form. If all they are ever taught is the bible, and are told that it is truth and to not question its writings, they probably have trouble seeing past what they see as truth and thinking of another way to put their answer that can be backed up without having faith in their bible. And I apologize for rambling.

good judgment and reason are interior the essence of the ideas. certainty is the essence of the physique, ideas and spirit, which the Bible promises completely. basically because of the fact some human beings do no longer have confidence the Bible isn't honest, does no longer advise that it is not.

Just shine it on. They see their religion as a good thing, and they think they're giving you some kind of gift. People should be more sensitive, but many aren't. Let them vent, as long as they don't get hateful about it. It is annoying, but only to the degree that you take them seriously. Meanwhile, try to find more intelligent, unindoctrinated people to talk with. It is a waste of your valuable energy to spend it in anger.

Multiple answers to your question.
1. Many (USA) 'Christians' apparently have not separated 'Bible' and scripture. (I tend to use them semi-interchangeable; but they are not identical).
2. By not 'purifying' the Bible, they are ignoring the illogical additions to scripture (possibly making themselves 'illogical'). (See my profile if you wish).
3. AS a result, even their 'preaching' can have less impact than it could/should.
