When i was a mormon growing up in the 80's in SLC utah, a person started dating when they were 16, it was up to the women to keep the men in line, no sex before mariage, and I hated the test, is was so sexually harrarssing, trying to test women to see how far they would go, this was probably only done in mormon wards in Utah, and not in mormon communities some place else. Sometimes the guys would do the test too much...remember it was up to the girl to keep them in-line. Oh yea making out was ok.

I married a awesome guy who is "LDS" the term "Mormon" is not the term used in today's society, as I thought Mormon as well because I knew nothing of the religion. Mormon was used when the church was first organized and a lot of the beliefs the church have, people are very wrong about because they listen to hear say without research. Beliefs on dating from what my husband told me when he was growing up are the same as any other christian faith. That is what "Mormons"are they are Christians and belief in the same Morales as all other churches. They maybe be a little strict but most religions are. No intercourse before marriage, shouldn't date before 16, kissing isn't encouraged for any young people because as we all know it can lead to other more mature situations which you need to be old enough to handle the responsibilities of your actions. If you decide to do something your not sure you can handle then your answer is simple, you would not do that. If you use good judgment you will know what to do. Hope that helped with your question?

Well, first dating before 16 is discouraged. There are many reasons for this. First one is that before that age, you judgment is a little screwy. I mean really, you could like someone for a few weeks, and then find someone better, or they could do something to make you mad and that's it, or try to push sexual situations onto you. Dating is hard anyway, no matter what age, so starting later is never a bad thing, right?

We can kiss, but making out is discouraged. This can lead to other things like petting or sex altogether, and let's face it, when you are in the moment, it's a little hard to stop. So not getting into heavy kissing can keep you away from that line. It isn't that it isn't allowed, but discouraged- very discouraged.

Holding hands is always fine, as is a kiss at the end of a date. An interesting fact- my hubby didn't even kiss me until our 9th date. I thought there was something wrong with me, but it really was that I was the first girl he had ever kissed. He was 21 at the time. I know, weird huh? I was pretty blown away by that too! I know how many I had kissed, and it wasn't only him!!

Group dating before 18 is encouraged. Mainly because it can keep you out of difficult- i.e. sexual- situations. I did go on normal, one on one dates after I was 16, but with a group it's easier to get to know the person in a more relaxed environment, around people you know and like.

We believe in saving ourselves for marriage. I was a virgin, as was my hubby, before we were married. We believe that sex is special and should only be with the person you spend your life with, after all the formalities are taken care of (marriage ceremony). Just think of how many problems could be solved to today's society if people would keep their pants on!! I believe that my body is sacred, meant to only be shared with the person that I know really loves me.

We don't have someone go on dates with us, like a chaperon. Most parents have to trust their kids to do the right thing in different situations. It isn't monitored by the church or anything. They are just guidelines to help the kids in the church. Doesn't mean everyone follows them, or that we are trouble with the church over these things, except for sex. Sex before marriage is a big thing. It isn't taken lightly, but it isn't grounds for serious discipline either.

Well not all together true. The church doesn't dictate what happens in that area. Although they may make suggestions about it. Ultimately it's up to the parents. I would say what you heard is not true. The biggest thing you will here them say is the word "petting," and how it's not allowed.

It is recommended not to start dating until sixteen, though not really a rule.

Also recommended to not date someone alone, though not a rule.

Also recommended to not do anything... "passionate", though not a rule.

Basically we see dating as more of a "practice" 'til you get college and you're actually looking for someone whom you want to be with the rest of your life.

We encourage youth (under 18) to group date. After that, you are sincerely looking for an eternal mate. You don't want to "get to home base" as it were. If we use the baseball analogy, nothing past first base.
