Closed-minded people are more stubborn, willing to go to extremes and likely to denounce everyone else/preach their way is the only way. They are defensive and base their beliefs on external values/past wrongs.
Open-minded people tend to be more well-balanced, encourage thoughtful discussion, want to understand and seek solutions that make things better for everyone. Their beliefs are internally-based/doing the "right" thing feels good.
Open-minded people can feel outraged/defensive if their basic values (using thoughtful approaches, having selfless motivation, etc.) are being violated by closed-minded beliefs.
Overall these conflicts are a necessary phase for a society to grow/move forward.

I have not found it to be the case that closed minded people win out over the open minded. Yet, I would tend to agree that there are more closed minded people than open minded ones.

because closed-minded means that a person refuses to see a different point of view. so when two people re arguing over something, the closed-minded person will just rant and rave,a dn refuse to see things from the other person's view so the other person will eventually realise this and stop bothering

Society generally teaches us to be skeptical. Mainly because of fear of change, especially in the standard of intellectualism and morailty. If you're skeptical, then you don't accept everything but you question all. Me, I'd consider myself very skeptical, even questioning why they encourage skepticism of all but their own beliefs.
so I do believe you should question everything and I don't really have a problem with closed-mindedness, once you've made the right decision. I'm saved, and I ain't changin'.

They are more focused. Only one thing to concentrate on. This gives them more mental power. Ironic, huh.
