All my Christian life (the last 27 years) I have struggled with having regular quiet times/devotions/whatever you call them -- the 'read the Bible and pray for an hour' thing.

Part of this, I know, is that I have ADHD, and sitting still for an hour not moving is really hard for me, unless I'm asleep or knitting.

And I've tried a ton of "systems" to deal with this -- all kinds of reading plans and "through the Bible in a year" books, and three-chapters-a-day schedules -- and for me, these things just don't work. I think they will, and then I look at it one day and realize I'm 23 chapters behind schedule, and I just give up in discouragement.

Please, no rebukes or condemnation -- I have already enough guilt about this as it is (my college roommate in 1981 once told me: "You'll never be mature in the Lord -- someone will always have to babysit you" after she found I hadn't had quiet times over spring break).

Can anyone give me some ideas?

How would Jesus feel if he knew that a few,not all,Christians used his good name as a excuse for immoral conduct, such as racism and etc?

How would true and devout Christians feel about the few Christians who had strayed away from Jesus' command to love your fellow man as Jesus had loved you?

My daughter went to a mainstream christian church where it was explained to her that if she did not stop reading Harry Potter, she would allow demons into her life and she will eventually go to hell. Should I get her into therapy now or wait until she's older?

Beliefs are beliefs, understood. I would like to know WHY God created people and everything according to Christian beliefs.
I mean if we are here and live accordingly, and in the end we will live in his kingdom in heaven when we die, what is the reason that He has us go through life at all? Does the bible speak on his motives?

I just want to know why we are put in flesh to serve God, when he could have just kept us in spirit from jump street?

What exactly are the trials and tribulations of life preparing us for in the end?

Why in ancient times (before any bible was written) did people make up gods and worship them? Why did so many people try to seek out a higher power? How can we explain this peculiar trait that human beings have?

Christians and Muslims each have one book to understand their God. Yet, I see so many different explanations of that one book, that it's almost funny, if it weren't so weird. It's just one book, which has been analyzed for over 2,000 years now. But it's still not clear to many what hell is, if the trinity is true, etc, etc.

Atheists (and also Pagans, by the way) didn't have that one book to guide their lives and religious visions and opinions. Yet, when reading their answers in this section, they seem like a much more uniform group than Christianity or Islam. And not only when it comes to the subject of religion, but also when it comes to many basic visions on life. How's that possible?

if youre on the east coast right now, look at 20/20 on abc.
There is a child who is a biological boy, but his parents let him live his life as a girl completely. He is 6 years old.

Do you have an opinion on this?

For example, why don't I have one eye on my knee and the other behind my head? Why isn't one of my arms coming out my navel? Why isn't one ear on my forehead and the other on the back of my neck? Why do I have a skeleton to promote support and muscles to promote movement, rather than just being a blob of skin and blood sitting on the ground? Yeah, good ones, huh. Of course, someone out there will probably provide (the THEORY of) evolution as an answer.

(actual text)
Kevin:
This is Kevin from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. How may I help you?

michael:
I read that Brigham Young said if the a black person and a white person produce any offspring it should be death on the spot for the couple. Is this true. My friend is African American and looking into the church, and I was reading about you guys online and came across several rascists statements made by your church. I don't know any Mormons personally, so I came here to aske the question.

Kevin:
I have never heard this.

Kevin:
I would question the source.

michael:
Here is the quote. It is on several internet sites. “Shall I tell you the law of God in regard to the AFRICAN RACE? If the WHITE man who belongs to the chosen seed mixes his blood with the seed of Cain, the PENALTY, under the LAW OF GOD, IS DEATH ON THE SPOT. THIS WILL ALWAYS BE SO.” (Journal of Discourses, Vol. 10, page 110)

Kevin:
Interesting. I have never heard it.

It used to be all massive flood this and resurrection that and splitting of seas here and talking donkeys there but these days the only thing happening on the miracle front are very small, very 'selfish' miracles. Healing old nuns from arthritis, that kind of thing. See the contrast?

2007-04-27 15:10:16 · 27 answers · asked by Anonymous

Many miracles happen on a daily basis. People that have terminal cancer suddenly are cured, the SCUD Missiles fired by Sadaam into Israel did not kill a single person even though one destroyed an apartment building but no one was home when it landed, many people who are Catholic report miraculous events, and my own birth is a miracle. One great great grandfather was hurriedly married to a young girl in 1916. Her Rabbi and parents asked the girl to accept a boy she never saw before and marry him. She did. That night she got pregnant with two twin boys; one of whom became my great grandfather. The next day he left for the German Front during WWI because he was a soldier. He never returned alive. It was a personal miracle to me that he managed to impregnate her. The vigorous return of Religion in Russia after decades of repression under an Athiestic Communistic regime is a miracle in itself. If you don't believe than why is Religion so resilient?

it seems that allah is allah in any language, which does not compute to GOD.
