Christians and Muslims each have one book to understand their God. Yet, I see so many different explanations of that one book, that it's almost funny, if it weren't so weird. It's just one book, which has been analyzed for over 2,000 years now. But it's still not clear to many what hell is, if the trinity is true, etc, etc.

Atheists (and also Pagans, by the way) didn't have that one book to guide their lives and religious visions and opinions. Yet, when reading their answers in this section, they seem like a much more uniform group than Christianity or Islam. And not only when it comes to the subject of religion, but also when it comes to many basic visions on life. How's that possible?

This is an excellent observation.

There is very little difference from one version of reality to the next when perusing the questions and answers of Atheists, agnostics and other non-believers of god-based belief by comparison to the gulfs that seem to separate the bible/curan groups. It seems as if taking ones explanation of truth by reason and logic leads to a common set of conclusions - the obvious facts, not being ignored, stand out clearly - while from the religious camps, taking meaning out of similar texts causes confusion and disagreement to rule the day. Baffling..!

It seems to me that the reasons for disagreement among god-believers may be as many as there are sects because of the basic self-righteousness drilled into each individual sect. While god-believers are unified to study the holy books, chapter and verse and word by word, it appears their willingness to finally reach a common agreement is lost in a sea of petty power struggles and false bragging rights. The churches are hopelessly divided by their own over-inflated egos.

I'm happy to remain as a simple Atheist without any puffed-up, better than thou attitude of my own self worth. Ordinary is good... Common is good... Reality is good... Truth is good...

Atheism... is just down-to-earth wonderful, and it's...
The Logical Choice.

(Mark 9:38-42) 38 John said to him: “Teacher, we saw a certain man expelling demons by the use of your name and we tried to prevent him, because he was not accompanying us.” 39 But Jesus said: “Do not try to prevent him, for there is no one that will do a powerful work on the basis of my name that will quickly be able to revile me; 40 for he that is not against us is for us. 41 For whoever gives YOU a cup of water to drink on the ground that YOU belong to Christ, I truly tell YOU, he will by no means lose his reward. 42 But whoever stumbles one of these little ones that believe, it would be finer for him if a millstone such as is turned by an *** were put around his neck and he were actually pitched into the sea. Jesus was talking about the group He had established when on earth. When the apostles died an apostasy came in and this is why you see so many religions today. Jesus gave us a good ear mark to tell the true religion. (John 13:33-35) . . .. 34 I am giving YOU a new commandment, that YOU love one another; just as I have loved YOU, that YOU also love one another. 35 By this all will know that YOU are my disciples, if YOU have love among yourselves.” Notice this is a love that would be with all his disciples, which would be earth wide. This is not only within a country or family but all people of the earth. Find a religion that is doing that and you have found the true one.

Both Atheists and Pagans (as well as other "alternative" groups) do try to work together towards something better. I've noticed that in most minority groups, the people are more willing to listen to the other side. We can disagree with one another and still be civil and not hold our differences against each other. I know I would be much more willing to listen to someone who was just as willing to listen to me. I may not agree, but at least maybe I'll understand the other point of view better... instead of just assuming what that point of view is because "so n so" says "all those people are like that".

Must be that religious pluralism I wrote of earlier. Yea, yea. ALL paths lead to God, ALL religions do, ALL of the many varied and endlessly disputed doctrines just kick ***, baby. I'm pleased, though, that most atheists don't ask me "What church do you go to?", as though they don't already know that answer. And really don't care. Funny, though- alot of Christians just can't seem to understand why I don't define my personal beliefs by any of a thousand different denominations or doctrines. Better get Mulder and Scully on this mystery right away.

I believe that the Bible is true. So my take is the the Bible in my hands is my Lord talking to me. It is a very interesting book, it never claims to be perfect, and when one does not have a good Bible knowledge there are difficulties. I think it is interesting to hear out people when they try to figure things out.

The main thing to understand is John 3:16.

Well, I have not seen many atheists who actually agree on everything either. I have even heard about spiritual atheists.

Maybe, they aren't fearful of asking honest questions. I suspect there would be less athiests if we didn't have two thousand years of abuse by many people claiming to represent God. Consider the mistreatment of women, the Crusades, slavery, and the abuse and near extinction of Native American people. Look at the rejection of truth and science? Look at some of the televangelists and hairdos... need I say more?

Yes, I am a Christian but don't like some of the history and symbolism claimed by those who choose this name; who create evildoers and haters
As Christians, we should not be afraid of truth. Truth comes to us in all forms and it is through truth we learn and are learning about God. When we put God into a corner and say an absolute statement we are ignorant of (which is proven false) what then do we have to stand on? Instead, let's let God be God and let us learn to understand God.

Peace

PS: Follow a life without God and you will find just as many athiest who have harmed others. This true nature of human kind cannot be ignored just because you think this group is more homogenized. What you believe in is not true...

If you use your brain and common sense to make life decisions, common sense and logic all tend to point in the same direction.
If you're desperately trying to interpret a 2000 year old book written by middle-eastern sheep herders to tell you how to live, then you lose sight of what's logical. It's chaos.

The very nature of both Christianity and Islam is that of conflict. They both spout hatred of anything different. Other religions don't do that. They don't actively try to convert anyone that doesn't agree, they don't try to force those that don't think the way they do to live by their religious laws. The other religions and Atheism are of the opinion of 'live and let live'. Thats why.

all humans have the ability to think logically.if presented with the same facts and evidence, logical thinking would lead to similar conclusions.

e.g. milk powder, water and tea leaves will make the basic type of tea

if u add too many things into it, like if one person adds coconut oil to his cup and another adds vinegar to his cup the end result id different.

Actually, it is not at all surprising. Atheism is based on examination of the factual evidence, and it is to be expected that people who properly analyze the same evidence will arrive at the same conclusions.
