to J.H.W.: when i put the title "to fellow catholics" that is me asking OTHER catholics the question, you might agree with it or not, that is your opinoin but if you dont have the knowledge if what i'm talking about, why would you answer? and as you clearly stated this forum as catholics and non-catholics, so when you say go ask a catholic, well i clearly did!

Hi Shlane, I really do know what you are saying here,I get some nasty comments just for being a Catholic even if what I post is innocent enough,I know too that much of the stick comes not from Atheists but from those holier than thou super Christians, who will state that we Catholics are not Christians and other remarks too, I`m sure you have had a few of these also.
We Catholics are made to feel like heretical fiends and worse of than non-believers by these people who in reality have caught the sanctimonious disease of the Pharisee`s which Christ rebuked, we Catholics have been on the back foot for too long mostly because of the scandals in our church and many are too timid to proclaim the faith which is, regardless of the scandals still the one Holy Catholic and Apostolic church founded on the Apostles.
I have explained many times here that before the written Gospels the Apostles and their successors proclaimed the Good News by oral tradition without which there could be no Gospels at all,and it is this holy office of tradition that makes the Catholic church the one true teaching church of Christ, but they stubbornly cling to Sola Scriptora(Bible alone) mentality.
So it is evident that there is a division between us that was not of our making that has grown to be animosity over the centuries and it is not going to be healed while this type of smug bias is their mindset.
There are many decent open-minded Protestants who do not react with this animosity but we seem to attract the bigots on this forum, it is time that Catholics stood up for themselves and defended the church without feeling inferior, and it helps to remember that Christ said to Peter and the Apostles these words,`The gates of Hell will not prevail against it(His Church) and prevail means in this context that Hell will attack this church continually and by many various ways but will never defeat it.
Finally one more fact needs to be pointed out and this is the fact that as Christ gave us one church and therefore one Body then there can be no other, the Body of Christ cannot be divided so all Christians are in actual fact Catholic, and although Protestants should not be blamed and we should not be smug about it the truth remains that they are actually Catholics in schism.

Don't let it get you down. Post your question the way you like, just be courteous and ignore the smart alecs. We have them galore on this board.

I might add a lot of the most know-it-alls are ex Catholics who had a primary and secondary education in Catholic schools but never bothered to extend their education in the Catholic faith beyond that. They think they are experts on Catholicism and frequently what you hear is that spoon fed education they got. I don't mean a person has to have a university degree at a Catholic school, but there are a lot of opportunities available in all dioceses for people to get a more adult view of their faith and a lot don't take advantage of it.

Hello Shlane.
Once you classify yourself you separate yourself from the rest. Once that happens, there are some who will be with you because they agree with you, and some will be against you because they don't agree with you. I would suggest, so you might get better response, not to classify yourself. Even so, expect those who are here just to try to push your buttons. Notice, Catholic is a religion within Christianity like so many others. Why are there so many Christian religious divisions? Well, people want to change and interpret things for their own benefits and purposes.

Hope this answers your question. Take care and God bless.

Love your neighbor as yourself.

I don't think anyone is excluding you.. though I have not read any of the answers you allude to.. I think what most of them must be saying is this.. if you have a question about catholicism go ask someone who has the knowledge.. because none of us non catholics have the slightest idea of what you are talking about any more than you understand what a methodist is.. plus.. I am reasonably sure that those of us who are non catholic.. don't agree with all the traditions of Catholicism...I know I don't. Does that mean you are wrong? or I am wrong?.. I guess it just falls in line with what you believe...and somewhere in time, we will all find out...sooo next time you have a catholic question.. go ask a catholic..

On questions and answers concerning any religion you are bound to be “damned if you do and damned if you don’t” no matter how carefully or kindly you try to word a question.…hmmm…maybe that’s a message in itself…
Personally, I would leave the question open as aiming it at one specific group tends to lure in another (often opposing) group... and who knows, you might get some decent answers from those who are not fans of organized religion but still “keep the faith” so to speak…
Ask what you want to ask, and expect some flak and flakes (including me depending on my mood). I hope you won’t let anyone deter you from asking questions.

Good luck and have a good evening!

This is a prime example of how you just can't please some people.

Ask questions the best way you can to elicit serious answers from people who would know and forget the rest. Bear in mind that ex-Catholics will be just as likely to answer correctly as current Catholics can be wrong.

Ignore anything that doesn't answer the question.

I am not catholic, but I am still confused. I would like to answer, but I do not know what the Q is!

The answer to your point is simply that there are an awful lot of idiots out there, who love nothing moe than to tell others what to do.

What you noticed is that no matter what or how you post someone will complain. Post what you want, the way you want, and have a good time with it.
