According to the fundamentalist interpretation of the Bible, about six thousand years ago God created the world and the universe out of nothing. He made a woman out of a man's rib. A talking snake told the woman to steal a piece of fruit, which she did. The man took a bite. As a result, they and their descendants were condemned to eternal torture. But God had a son who thought this was a bad situation. So the son allowed himself to be tortured to death as a substitute--God agreed to the deal. Everyone who accepts this deal will be saved from eternal torture. The rest will burn forever. These include (a) unborn babies; (b) children who died before they were old enough to agree to the deal; (c) people who never got a chance to hear about it. Does this cover it, or am I missing anything?

Is this an abomination unto the Lord as well?

All sins are equal in the eyes of the Lord, right?

What if the two married fat people engage in gluttonous activities together?

If you argue that obesity could be due to genetics, many argue that homosexuality is genetic too, including scientists.

So not all fat people are genetically fat and perhaps not all gay people are genetically gay.

Is lack of sin a prerequisite to marriage, and if this is the case should anyone be married at all?

This is not intended to offend, just to make you think...

in talking to learned Christians, not a single one has opened his mouth to hazard an explanation of the phrase "begotten not made". It had to be an American who dared to explain. He said: "It means, sired by God." "What!" I exploded: "Sired by God?" "No, no!" he said, "I am only trying to explain the meaning, I do not believe that God really sired a son."

i'm a Buddhist and therefore an atheist myself..thought it'd be interesting to see the responses.consider the following:

an angel appears(halo and all)in front of a theist when he's alone in his room.obviously he'd believe that it was a sign from God.

same thing happens to an atheist and most probably he'd think he was hallucinating and go to a psychiatrist to check if
if i faced that situation i'd definitely think i was hallucinating.but lets say this angel appeared in a busy street and hundreds of people witnessed the scenario of course i'd believe.

BUT let's say 50 years afterwards,a scientific explanation was found for this apparition and it this explanation really sounded logical and made sense,i'd change my mind again...e.g.in ancient times rainbows were considered to be magical roads and later when there was a sensible explanation in science people learnt that and changed their minds....
dogma in EITHER way retards education doesn't it?
what are your views on this?

life. We all know that plants have no eyes and can't actually see. Why did sightless plant life desire to, or evolve into, having eyes/eye sight? If never having sight, how would a plant know what sight even was? Where did it get the brain power to even consider it? Does upper level plant life such as a tree, wish it could see? The human eye is extremely complex. Did evolution--continuous evolving-- account for that complexity? Many animals have better sight than humans. Why did sight digress? Does evolution have a goal in mind? Is there a finish line? Being able to fly on our own accord (not a jet etc,) would be a greatly desired trait for humans. If humans are further up the scale than insects and animals, why would such a desired, advanced attribute be lost? Why can't we live under water like fish can? What is mans next step in evolution? Three eyes? Able to fly? Turn from visible into invisiblre? Grow 10 ft. tall? How and why did all this happen?

I do my best personally to follow the path of Jesus, and being mortal, it is hard. Yet, I stick to Native "Red Road" (the path to the Creator", teachings. I know some really excellent people who are Athiest, and their social responsibility to the Planet and others is Christ like. Meaning, not to claim they copy Jesus, these friends I am generalizeing about, are Christ like as any human being could be.

So many people think they know Islam and its teachings, but the more I discuss it with people the more I realise how many misconceptions there are, and how stereotypical people get when dealing with the subject. I just wanted to know how much the average person knows about this great religion.

I challenge you, you will never be able to show me any such declaration from Jesus pbuh. If you are unable to show me any verse in which Jesus pbuh Himself said "I am begotton son of god" then have a fear of hell-fire which will encompass infidels and culprits.

How do you know what the truth is? Do you assume what the truth is, or believe what your parents taught you?

I personally am torn between three religions at this time. Christianity, Theistic Satanism, and Paganism.

I think all three are mixtures of truth...

So is a sea cucumber, the turds of the ocean.

As a second question, other than people, what is some other goofy creations of gods? For atheists what are unusual evolutionary cannon fodder?

"I cannot imagine a God who rewards and punishes the objects of his creation, whose purposes are modeled after our own -- a God, in short, who is but a reflection of human frailty. Neither can I believe that the individual survives the death of his body, although feeble souls harbor such thoughts through fear or ridiculous egotisms." When studying theology in USA about 40 years ago, we had lecturer who taught in Socratic style. In other words, one of us would affirm a belief - based on our reading of recommended books - which he would then subject to cross-examination, with rest of us invited to join in. It was the best experience I ever had in open, challenging and friendly thinking. Someone one day posed the question of whether the imperfections of humanity and nature must be God's fault, and thus proof of God being neither omnipotent or loving. The lecturer posed an initial question: "Have you tried to create a universe recently?" Any takers on what answers came up in the subsequent discussion?

i'll admit that i'm ignorant here, but i really want to know. how exactly does a non-denominational church operate? does it have it's own specific procedure that it follows for each service, or is it more of a potluck of all religions? in either case, it's still unique only to the non-denominational church. so what makes a non-denominational church non-denominational?

Example: In western countries it is very easy to get an anulment, that is, the church recognizes a marriage as null en void, that is, there never was a marrige. Meanwhile, the Roman Catholic Church in eastern countries very hardly grants such recognition to their faithful... How should we act??? Meanwhile in western countries people can remarry in the church thanks to annulment, in the eastern countries people are forced to disobey the church's regulation or to live alone for ever, since they are not granted annulment.
