The platypus is goofy.

So is a sea cucumber, the turds of the ocean.

As a second question, other than people, what is some other goofy creations of gods? For atheists what are unusual evolutionary cannon fodder?

Pigs have half hour orgasms. Why is the pleasure (one presumes it's pleasant, is that safe?) that long?

Agree on the sea cucumbers....like whale snot (if whales had noses).

Oh, and opossums. Nobody ever spells it right in English and it's not like we were really looking for a bigger, gnarlier rat!

I think god made the platypus with a big old grin on his face saying hehe let's see them figure this one out. Then again he probably got a big laugh out of whoever looked at a lobster (which is basically a large sea cockroach) and went ya' know with some melted butter that would be pretty good to eat.

An example of God's humor is the instance in which the Israelites were using the Ark of the Covenant like a good-luck charm in taking it to battle, and the Philistines ended up capturing it and placing it in their temple before their idol of Dagon. They came into the temple the next day and found Dagon flat on his face before the ark. They set him back up. The next morning, there he was again, but this time he had his hands and head cut off as a symbol of his powerlessness before the God of the ark (1 Samuel 5:1-5). God’s putting Dagon in a position of submission to His ark is a comical picture.

If you think God has a sense of Humor, Don't look at the Platypus...It does very well in life.

Look at mankind, and all the screwups, all the coniving, all the jealosies, all the mind games in love, the list goes on and on and on. Mankind is the joke.

i might have to disagree. I saw Stephen Wright on Letterman last night, and said something pretty funny.
"Think about how funny phones would look if our ears weren't close to our mouth." Now THAT would be a sense of humor.

btw, http://www.talkorigins.org/faqs/platypus.html. Interesting, no?

I would really like to think so. That is probable why humans have such an innate need to seek laughter.
