Well, funny I was never told that at any church I went to and I have been to a lot of churches that follow Christianity. If that was the case then I would say they went a little over board. I do not believe in reading the Harry Potter books because of the witch craft aspects. That is something personal between her and God. When someone gives their life over to Christ their eyes will start to be a lot more open to the evils of the world and something that may seem so harmless now to the eyes of an non believer will reveal its true evil. God opens peoples eyes through the Holy Spirit. I am sorry if your daughter was told that and put in that kind of position but I assure you that this is just one particular church. The thing is when one person who calls themself a christian does something like this, or goes out holding up signs that say "God hates you, you are going to hell" people generalize all christians as being the same way. It is not so. Of course christians are by now used to being generalized for what other so called christians do, otherwise athiest and non believers wouldn't have a leg to stand on with their jokes right.

Not all Christians are like that, just like not all Muslims are extremist. I'm sorry you had that experience, but please don't let one person or one church's bad choice turn you off from all of Christianity. First of all, not everyone who claims to be a Christian is a Christian. And even if they truly are a Christian, they aren't perfect. Christians mess up just like everyone else.
True Christianity does not mean rules. True Christianity is accepting Jesus Christ as God, turning your life over to Him, accepting and loving others as He did. (or at least trying your hardest to) True Christianity is about letting God change you. It's not about trying to change others.

oh my god, you should get her into therapy if she truly believs it, because it could ruin her relationship with God. I don't know where you live, but Harry Potter is not a reason to go to hell for reading.

No therapy required, just keep her away from those loons and make sure your name is on the list to get a copy of the seventh HP when it hits the stores (later this spring, I think).

You probably don't need to put her in therapy. It's mildly traumatic at most and making yourself available to answer her questions about it reasonably is probably the best therapy there is.
Don't forget to find a new church.

she just needs to stop reading books that have to do with evil. anything on earth that is evil is not of God. there are demons around us every day, but those who are saved by Christ are saved from the demons completely controlling us. without Christ, there is no armor to prevent a demon from having a greater influence on your life. they are very real, and very dangerous if you don't have God.
