Thor made thunder, until we figured out how nature actually does that. From that moment on Thor was moved from Religion to Mythology.

Has this always been the case with gods, and will it continue to be so? When we figure out how the universe and human kind actually came to existence, what sort of gods would we still need?

I believe that all scripture is God-inspired. For those who don't, how can you account for such an accurate description of so many years of history, and all the proficies about Jesus that were fulfilled? The Bible couldn't have been made up by one man, and it seems pretty remarkable for even a group of people to come up with something this incredible.
Just the nature of Jesus is unfathomable; it's part of the reason the Jews don't believe Jesus is the Messiah, because He wasn't what they were expecting.
And if you don't believe, then explain why the Bible is so solid, the best-selling book in the world, and why Christianity has always grown so rapidly.

‘If the solar system was brought about by an accidental collision, then the appearance of organic life on this planet was also an accident, and the whole evolution of Man was an accident too. If so, then all our present thoughts are mere accidents—the accidental by-product of the movement of atoms. And this holds for the thoughts of the materialists and astronomers as well as for anyone else’s. But if their thoughts—i.e. of materialism and astronomy—are merely accidental by-products, why should we believe them to be true? I see no reason for believing that one accident should be able to give me a correct account of all the other accidents. It’s like expecting that the accidental shape taken by the splash when you upset a milkjug should give you a correct account of how the jug was made and why it was upset.’

Why do you consistently and systematically make excuses for the utter failure of your God to do anything at all?

I used to do that for my ex-husband. Is God like your ex-husband?

Why are you answering questions concerning God & Jesus? I am so tired of hearing the Atheist point of view. When I ask a question to Christians all I usually get are rude Atheist answers- We already know you don't believe so will it ever be possible to keep your opinions to yourselves?

I would respect Christians much more if they would stop responding to logic with fantasy and just admit that they personally have faith in God and that's that. And also, is there a Christian on this site who can construct a paragraph that is free from grammatical and spelling errors? That'd be great.

Jesus said, "If you do not forgive others, your father in Heaven will not forgive you."

Paul said nothing about that. And, Jesus said nothing about you getting to Heaven if you follow Paul's letters to his friends and empire builders.

Do you think you are going to Heaven by misinterpreting what it means to believe in Jesus? If you believe in someone, you don't just believe they exist, you follow their instructions. -John 3:16 -

Okay I have done some things in the past I am not proud of and still feel guilty about them. I pray to God to forgive me and I am sorry for what I did. I have taken the consequences for my actions by the people I hurt. If God has forgiven me, will he still make me "pay" for my mistakes or can I know I am forgiven and move on with my life? I kind of beat myself up over this..

*Please, no stupid/ mean answers just because you feel like answering like that*

It saddens me when I see in this forum so many remarkably good answers being thumbed-down while the uncalled-for ones are being thumbed-up by people whose sense of balance (if there is any), I could not fathom.

I'm sorry to sound uptight, but I just can't stand seeing the answers I truly treasure to end up being treated unfairly, rudely and shabbily....

even though the thought of the creation of the universe frustrates me, i still think deeply about it. Whenever a scientist says that earth was made from floating debri and space dust, a religious person would say, and where does that come from? The religious person would then say god had to create it, something had to, at least. Anyways, that would be how my brother and father once argued before. But i was just wondering that the fact that god can be everliving, and not be created by anything, why cant the universe be like that? Also, just because there is a god, why must there be a heaven and hell. People usually try to prove there is heaven by if the universe was made by an all powerful entity, but why would it make a "heaven"? Im not trying to discredit anyone's religion, so dont reply agrily, that would be really unfair

Obviously, a couple of you don't agree with my beliefs that living creatures deserve respect and shouldn't be mutilated for our own selfish gain. So...tell me what your beliefs say about how to treat other living beings.

I am giving you full permission to quote holy texts here. Just be sure to add your own take on the quote. I seriously want to know what people think about this.

*Please don't go off about being/not being vegetarian. That's not what I'm asking. It's not about whether or not the animals are killed, it is how they are treated and how they are killed.
