Well I try not to judge authors who write book on Wicca, Paganism, etc. However I belive the most common reason that most dislike her is becuse her books assume that you know the basics. Even her first one. To assume whoever picks up her book knows the basics is not a good thing.
Another reason may be that she leaves out alot of information when she goes over spell work. The most important thing she leaves out it that by doing anothers spell you are haring thier Karma. So it they did it for bad and you did it for good then you share the bad karma anyway becuse that is how the spell was origonaly cast.

I have read a few of her books and found them to be full of misinformation (especially concerning the nature and identities of various deities) and she portrays her ideas and theories as absolutes. Her works make it sound as if you don't do things her way, you are doing it wrong. The saddest part is that much of her work is geared toward people that have NO experience and knowledge of the subject and someone gould get the idea from those works that her methods could lead to true mastry of the Craft. I have known people that swear by her work, that think the sun rises and sets where she spits. The whole warm fuzzy fluffy bunny thing put me off anyway...but she carries it way WAY too far.

To sound like a broken record, looking at the other answers, she has a good deal of misinformation in her books, on a variety of subjects. That alone is enough to add her to the "do not recommend" list.
On top of that, add in questionable ethics. In her "Teen Witch" book, she has an "un-ground me" spell that, essentially, advocated teens using magic to get out of being grounded by their parents, as opposed to actually accepting the consequences of their actions.
And, when people expressed some concerns about the "Teen Witch" book (based on misgiving about her other works), she called the people concerned "busy little bees" because they dared to question her motives.
All told, she's got a lot of things going against her.

Because she's a fluffy bunny. Her history is all skewed [Matriarchal civilization never existed] and her magic is just of a horribly lazy variety.
Also, she dosen't know that an inverted pentagram is used as a second degree initaitry symbol, and think's it's evil.

It is not a matter of liking her or not liking her. It is a matter of the type of information or should I say mis-information she is putting out for public consumption.
She has done good things within the community at large at the same time I do not have her on my recommended reading list.

she spreads misinformation.
kinda like me saying :
i have documented sources showing she is in reality a nun for the catholic church whos mission from the last pope was to corrupt the resurgence of the old ways with as much misinformation and sense of failure as possible. She has also donated nearly all of her book royalities to the catholic church...
thats just misinformation... but cuz i made it sound like it might be true.... you get it?

There is a good reason she is disliked, she's a fluffy bunny. Her books are dumb-downed and sugar coated versions of Paganism and are filled with so many pieces of misinformation it isn't funny.

She's Fluffy. She uses information that has been debunked by historians and archeologists. Most of what she calls historical, isn't.
