The premise:

On one particular day of the year, designated as "Christian Charity Day", 100% of the offerings / donations given in church services around the country are donated to a specially selected national charity. This could represent a collective gift of hundreds of millions of dollars.

St. Judes Hospital, the United Way, etc., are a couple of the charities I have in mind, but a different charity, from a list of worthy causes, could be chosen each year.

The idea may not be original, but it's something I thought of on my own, and I've wondered why something like this has never been done before.

Would you help organize, or promote, or support the idea of an annual Christian Charity Day?

I'm sure you believe so, as do I. What is it, and where did it come from? If it is some kind of societal norm, than you are falling into moral relativism, right? What keeps you, as an atheist, from following in the footsteps of the most recent 'Godless' societies - China, Cuba, USSR, etc? I argue that the 'golden rule' was developed by theists (not that all follow this basic rule).

Peace to you. I'm not attacking you, just interested in how you develop your moral code, and what it is based on.

Religious folk think morality is whatever a priest or book says it is. So if the Bible told them to go rape a bunch of women or stone some children to death, they'd think that's moral. Oh wait, try reading Deuteronomy and see if you don't find that very thing. Funny how few religious people have actually read the texts their religion is based upon.

I have not been on this website for very long, but a see a lot of Islam and Muslim bashing going on. Why is that? Is that voicing your fear and hurt? Or is it voicing your hatred?
How would you like it if your religion was constantly insulted? Wouldn't it feel like someone telling you your husband or wife is no good?
What good does all this bashing do? It might make you feel better for a little while, but, then the same feelings come up again.
What good is all your searching on websites-- to argue with Muslims about the "stupidity" of their religion? ("Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up...")

What does Jesus tell us to do? "Mt 5:44 But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,.."
Lu 6:27 "But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,..."

And Peter adds:
1. Peter 3:15 "Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,..."

I mean some of you are so devoted to change religious people's mind, that you should make your own church, advertise it, hand out panflets, and invite people to come listen to you guys speaking about the non-existence of God. The slogan could be: "come worship yourself, before you die and become dust".

Where is their PROOF???
Faith is something you have when you DON'T have proof!
Blind faith (believing in a religion) is WASTED energy, time, effort!

PROVE your beliefs - oh Wasted believers - BEFORE you start trying to shove your BS down our throats!

They think of hell as a torment chamber for sinners who don't accept Jesus as their Savior. They say that you will be in pain for all eternity and be awake for all eternity crying and hurting.

Sounds a bit harsh...

Did you know God states at Leviticus 27:30-31 that money shouldn't be used to tithe? Did you know that, if money was used, a 20% penalty was to be added?

See how much you REALLY know about titheing. Take the tithe test: http://www.truthorfables.com/Tithe_Test.htm

I'm certainly not stating we should stop giving to our churches, but God never intended this aspect of the Mosaic law to carry over into the New Covenant brought by Jesus!

I think the jews are God's chosen people and through them has brought salvation. But I've always wondered since the animal sacrifices have ceased, how do you atone for your sins? Doesn't the bible say (old test) that a blood sacrifice is the only way? We Christians say Jesus died for our sins, what say you?
Thanks, †

They are going to replace it with something called a "praise band" and "worship team". The organ needs about $200,000 in repairs and I offered to help them raise the money. They told me that this is a waste of money, people today prefer guitars, and that anyway they would need to raise money for a new sound system!!! What is wrong with these people?

How do I convince them that the organ and choir are artistically superior to this modern nonsense? How do I convince them that no serious person could want to hear a crass electric guiar instead of the organ and choir? I need help.

What is wrong with this younger generation? They have no taste in fine music! I am heartbroken.

If you don't know Jesus Christ, especially as Savior and Lord, then PLEASE, let me help you here friends!
Have you been saved?
God's Plan of Salvation:
Are you sure you're going to Heaven when you die?
John 3:5 reads, Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. [6] Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. [7] You should not be surprised at my saying, `You must be born again.'

In the Bible God provides us with his plan of salvation (to be born again). His plan is simple. You can be saved today, please read on.

First you must realize you a sinner.
"for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God," Romans 3:23

Because you are a sinner, you are condemned to death.
"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 6:23 This death includes eternal separation from God.

But God loves you and has a plan of salvation
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16

So all you have to do is believe in Jesus? God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. 2 Corinthians 5:21

What did Jesus have to do so that I could be saved?
Jesus had to shed His blood and die. For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you to make atonement for yourselves on the altar; it is the blood that makes atonement for one's life. (Leviticus 17:11) In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness. (Hebrews 9:27) But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8) Although we may not understand how, God said my sins and your sins were laid upon Jesus and he died in our place.

What must I do to be saved?
This is the same question the Philippian jailer asked Paul and Silas and "They replied Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved..." (Acts 16:31) You must understand that, "In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent." (Romans 17:30) This repentance is a change of mind that agrees with God that one is a sinner, and also agrees with what Jesus did for us on the cross.

Simply believe on Him as the one who bore your sin, died in your place, was buried, and whom God resurrected. His resurrection assures that the believer can claim everlasting life when Jesus is received as Lord and Savior. for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." (Romans 10:13) The everyone includes you! God's promise is that you will be saved, not maybe, not as long as, but will be saved.

So, if you realize your a sinner, then right now, wherever your sitting, lift your heart to God in prayer and repent. If you like follow this simple prayer:

Lord,

I know that I'm a sinner. I believe Jesus was my substitute when he died on the cross. I believe his shed blood, death, burial, and resurrection were for me. I now receive him as my Savior. I thank you for the forgiveness of my sins, the gift of salvation and everlasting life, because of your merciful grace.

Amen

Just take God at his word and claim his salvation by faith. Believe and you will be saved. No church membership, ceremonial acts, or good works can save you. God alone does all the saving. "Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!" (2 Corinthians 9:15)

If you're not sure about what you've just read, read it again, ask God to help you understand, send me an email, but don't delay. Your soul is worth more than all the world. "What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul? (Mark 8:36)

Once you are saved, there are three things you should begin to practice daily for spiritual growth: Pray, Read your Bible, and find a good Bible-believing church home.

A question was asked a few moments ago about spanking one's children.

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=ApEDZB_VqJdnpCa.fmHcvz_sy6IX?qid=20070319060950AANLVzm&show=7#profile-info-o26ODduNaa

I'm curious as to whether one's religion has any bearing on methods of discipline.

My questions are:

1. Do you spank your children?
2 What is your religion?
3. If you don't spank, what is the preferred method of discipline in your home?
